Atarita - Atakan Gümrükçüoğlu - Turkish - 70 / 100

Despite its vast open world, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land can feel repetitive at times. However, its engaging turn-based combat mechanics and tactical depth make for an enjoyable experience.

But Why Tho? - Kyle Foley - 8 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is an enthralling experience that pushes the Atelier franchise into a new era. There is so much to see and do while uncovering new mysteries that affect the world and its inhabitants on a profoundly personal level.

COGconnected - Nicola Kapron - 80 / 100

All in all, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a fun adventure in crafting and exploration. Its chill atmosphere mixes quite well with the slightly heavier themes. And the crafting is excellent.

Capsule Computers - Travis Bruno - 9 / 10

With a deep alchemy system, engaging world, and darker yet satisfying narrative, Atelier Yumia impresses, though the combat could improve, making this a promising new step for Gust's iconic series.

Checkpoint Gaming - Jarrod Harrison - 8.5 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is an undoubtedly fun, charming, and riveting entry into a well-established franchise. With a sprawling open world to explore, a variety of interesting ideas and themes, an extraordinary story, charming characters, and a completely overhauled synthesis system, Atelier Yumia is a great starting point for newcomers, and a welcomed addition to a much-loved franchise by fans.

Cloud Dosage - Jon Scarr - 3.5 / 5

This is the most ambitious Atelier game yet, and it lays a solid foundation for whatever comes next. If you’re open to change, it’s absolutely worth diving into.

Comunidad Xbox - Miguel Osorio - Spanish - 85 / 100

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Imagined Land is an incredibly competent RPG and a good gateway to this franchise so unknown to the vast majority.

Console Creatures - Bobby Pashalidis - 8 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land feels like an exciting shakeup for the long-running series with some interesting changes.

Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury - 4.5 / 5

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a committed effort by Koei Tecmo to further grow the series and find a new audience. It means that some of the Atelier traditions have been firmly and, on the back of the Ryza series, likely permanently behind.

DualShockers - Erin Rice - 8.5 / 10

This game is very ambitious in terms of what has been done to the franchise up until now, and I think it is definitely going in the right direction. This is exactly what the game needed in terms of a fresh new look, and the open-world aspect of the game truly created an experience for me that I wish I would've had with all the games in the franchise coming up to this one.

Entertainium - Eduardo Rebouças - Worth your time

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land comfortably serves as an excellent jumping in point to those looking into playing the Atelier games.

Eurogamer.pt - Bruno Galvão - Portuguese - 4 / 5

Atelier Yumia is definitely a new era for the series, more dynamic, more ambitious, with the ability to attract new players without losing what veterans like. The combat system is a lot of fun, the storyline interesting and the minor problems don't detract from the overall experience.

EvelonGames - Joel Isern Rodríguez - Kaym - Spanish - 8.2 / 10

Atelier Yumia The Alchemist of Memories and the Imagined Land is an excellent entry point for new players and a refreshing installment for veteran fans of the series. Most of its gameplay innovations are well executed, with the open world, revamped alchemy system, and engaging characters standing out the most. While it’s not perfect, particularly in the implementation of the motorcycle and the lack of difficulty in combat, the overall experience is highly enjoyable.

Final Weapon - Angelus Victor - 4 / 5

Atelier Yumia is a great starting point if you've never played an Atelier game before. There's this constant feeling of discovery as you go through each and every spot marked on the map. It does have some rough spots, but Gust is on the right path if their idea is to make future titles in this open world format.

GAMES.CH - Franziska Behner - German - 73%

The "Atelier" series has changed quite a bit with Yumia. It's somehow more mature, more grown-up, and a whole lot darker. "Atelier" fans will recognize this from the older installments of the series.

Game Lodge - Jean Kei - Portuguese - 8 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a renovated take on the franchise, but without forgetting what makes Atelier so special. Even though it takes a while to pick up, the game has key moments that captivated me and taught me to love the game's cast. It's a game that resembles a conventional RPG in many ways, but with touches that only those who work extremely well with characters and value daily life know how to put in and get right. Some long-time fans may feel a little lost, especially at the beginning, but if you welcome this game with open arms, it will have a lot to offer you.

Game Rant - Katelyn Kivel - 9 / 10

Despite a few growing pains, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land is a worthwhile entry in the long-running franchise.

GameBlast - Ivanir Ignacchitti - Portuguese - 9 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is another engaging entry in the franchise, featuring active combat that is a sensational evolution for the franchise and a vast world full of incentives for exploration. However, the less intuitive detail system and some quality of life details that deserve more end up hurting the experience in an unexpected way compared to the Ryza trilogy.

GameGrin - Mike Crewe - 8.5 / 10

Possibly the best Atelier game to date, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a thoroughly enjoyable, and rather cosy, RPG that anyone can easily sink hours upon hours into.

Gameliner - Jolien Mauritsz - Dutch - 3.5 / 5

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land offers a fresh take with a non-traditional protagonist and expanded gameplay, including a larger world, new mechanics, and dynamic combat, but underutilizes its setting, while technical issues on Switch are offset by stunning art and excellent voice acting, making it a fun yet slightly shallow addition to the Atelier series.

Gamer Guides - Lowell Bell - 72 / 100

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land manages to stand on its own two rocket-powered high heels through the strength of its comfortable cast and flashy, fun combat. I still wish the open-world puzzles and base building weren’t so shallow and derivative, even if Atelier Yumia doesn’t penalize you too much for not engaging with them. This isn’t the major shift toward the mainstream that the series needed but if your expectations aren’t too high, you’ll have a great time exploring Adaliss with Yumia and her friends.

Gamersky - Chinese - 7.5 / 10

It's clear that Atelier Umia is trying to modernize the series, but when you start down the wrong path, every step forward only leads you further astray. An overly simplified alchemy system and a formulaic open world strip away the series' most essential charm, leaving behind a beautifully crafted shell that ultimately feels hollow. No matter how polished the presentation, it's hard to truly love a game that has lost its heart.

GamingBolt - Ravi Sinha - 7 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Enlightened Land is far from the best entry in the series for newcomers, but it's certainly the largest and most accessible.

Generación Xbox - Spanish - 89 / 100

The narrative, centered on the memories and secrets of alchemy, is supported by deeply rooted character interactions that will leave you spellbound on this beautiful journey that begins on Xbox.

Hobby Consolas - David Rodriguez - Spanish - 78 / 100

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Imaginary Land isn't the definitive installment in the series, but its ideas and new approaches establish it as a perfect entry to attract new fans looking to enjoy a JRPG formula that's unusual in the genre.

Impulsegamer - Abdul Saad - 3.3 / 5

All in all, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land introduces many great concepts and features but fails to be wholly entertaining. It contains unnecessarily tedious features and awful performance that will hopefully be fixed post-launch.

LadiesGamers.com - Yvonne van Geloven - Liked-a-lot

I must admit to looking back longingly to the fighting and synthesising systems in Atelier Ryza and earlier games. The fighting feels too much like button mashing for me, and I miss all the complexity of older Atelier games. But I get that Gust wants to insert new things into each game and maybe make the Atelier games accessible to new players, and it all comes down to personal preference.

That being said, the building part of Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a nice addition. I love the exploration part; I’m just curious about what’s around the corner. The deep narrative and the way alchemy is portrayed made me instantly like Yumia—no overly enthusiastic youngster but a quiet girl with a history.

This is a good successor to the Secret trilogy and a great entry point for newcomers.

Le Bêta-Testeur - Patrick Tremblay - French - 8.9 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land proves that the franchise continues to evolve in the right direction. With its more open world, refined combat system, and captivating soundtrack, it's a must-have for JRPG and alchemy fans.

Loot Level Chill - Lyle Pendle - 9 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land is a bold new direction for the series, with particularly great combat.

Niche Gamer - Throgmorton Belmont - 8.5 / 10

The combat system is gonna be competing in uniqueness against Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I have to hand it to Gust with what they were able to accomplish with their team this time. Using fantastic references, they have made another fantastic recipe with Atelier Yumia that will please ongoing fans.

Nindie Spotlight - Justin Nation - 7.8 / 10

With plenty of undeniably flashy combat, and plenty of exploration, Atelier Yuma feels a bit different from the RPG norm

Nintendo Blast - Juliana Paiva Zapparoli - Portuguese - 8.5 / 10

Even with the obvious hardware limitations, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & The Envisioned Land is extremely beautiful on the hybrid console and is worth checking out for those who are already familiar with the Atelier franchise or for those who, like me, are curious to get to know it. With a more interactive world, renewed combat and the addition of construction mechanics, it is an excellent entry in the series, without leaving aside its already well-known identity. The amount of content available is also impressive, guaranteeing several hours of gameplay and many different ways of approaching it for those who like to explore everything a title has to offer. If the next game can redeem Atelier Yumia's flaws, Gust's series will certainly have gained a new fan.

Nintendo Life - Mitch Vogel - 7 / 10

In most respects, Atelier Yumia is an impressively ambitious and strong new entry for the long-running series, blazing a trail to parts unknown much like its titular protagonist. Things like the darker story, action-heavy combat, and increased focus on exploration gameplay all work well in its favor. The only major complaint is that this was clearly designed with much stronger hardware than the Switch in mind, and while its performance here is just about acceptable, it's very far from ideal. At any rate, we'd give this one a recommendation not only to long-time Atelier veterans, but also to fans of other vast JRPG adventures such as the Xenoblade series. Atelier Yumia is a bold step forward for this franchise, and it stands as a strong indication that the Atelier series has a lot of life left in it yet.

NintendoBoy - Marcos Vinícius - Portuguese - 8 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land invites us to explore an intriguing world with a dark tone and a denser narrative than any other Atelier has seen before. It is a very competent RPG when it comes to presenting gameplay mechanics that tend to attract a large audience. On the other hand, veterans may be disappointed to see that elements that give uniqueness to the series are neglected.

NintendoWorldReport - Allyson Cygan - Unscored

That all being said, Atelier Yumia is a game I think you should experience, either if you are an experienced Atelier fan or are looking for a new entry point into the series. While I have yet to finish the game (hence why this is a review in progress)I am thoroughly enjoying everything new and old that Atelier Yumia has to offer. If this is the future of the Atelier series, the future is looking bright for Atelier fans.

Noisy Pixel - Bailey Seemangal - 8.5 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land takes the beloved RPG series in a bold new direction, blending emotional storytelling with expansive open-world exploration. While its narrative depth and revamped synthesis system shine, underwhelming villains and uneven gameplay balance hold it back from greatness.

PS4Blog.net - EdEN - 9.5 / 10

A stellar new entry in the beloved Atelier series

PSX Brasil - Thiago de Alencar Moura - Portuguese - 90 / 100

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is another excellent release from one of the most consistent RPG series today. The narrative is the highlight, but the combat and synthesis systems bring their own brilliance to a journey that will please both old fans and new alchemists alike.

Pizza Fria - Matheus Jenevain - Portuguese - 8.3 / 10

My time with Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land was a recipe for success, in which the sum of all the high-quality parts more than made up for the ones that weren't so high.

Push Square - John Cal McCormick - 8 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a wonderfully charming addition to the long-running JRPG series. It's a fantastic jumping in point to the franchise for new players, and has enough tweaks to the established formula to provide a breath of fresh air for existing fans. The story is a little slight, but the appealing characters, streamlined yet robust crafting system, and rewarding exploration make this a recipe for a good time.

Quest Daily - Daniel Anderson - 7.5 / 10

Atelier Yumia is a commendable blend of tradition and evolution, but if you’re planning to get the Switch version, you may want to think again.

RPG Site - 8 / 10

While the combat system has its flaws and the gameplay doesn't innovate much within the open-world genre, Atelier Yumia is a fantastic starting point for newcomers to the Atelier franchise.

Shacknews - Lucas White - 7 / 10

Just like its impressively long and unwieldy title, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a messy game. But it’s a messy game with lofty ambitions and a lot to like, even if which pieces you end up liking are not the pieces you expected or wanted to like, especially if you’re a returning Atelier fan.

Siliconera - Cody Perez - 9 / 10

Atelier Yumia is the bold and right new direction for this series. While it took time to adjust to the action combat, it is unlike anything I’ve played before and quite fun.

Spaziogames - Italian - 7 / 10

Atelier Yumia is the classic case of a niche series desperately trying to adapt to a changing market, losing what made it unique in the process. The shift to an open-world structure, instead of expanding gameplay possibilities, reduces them to a repetitive loop of activities, while the combat system, despite a few interesting ideas, lacks depth.

SteamDeckHQ - Noah Kupetsky - 4 / 5

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a fantastic experience with engaging mechanics and a solid story. Synthesizing items is addicting, the story is interesting, and the activities around the open world are fulfilling. Combat gets enjoyable later on, but it can feel a little floaty in general with basic attacks. Apart from some minor issues traversing the landscape, I didn't find much I disliked about the game, and I would recommend checking it out if you enjoy the series or just like JRPGs in general.

Playing on the Steam Deck is almost completely solid, with a fluctuating framerate. But outside of some areas in the first region and some very flashy combat, we can get a stable 30 FPS with the game looking quite solid. It needs some compromises, but in the end, it is playable and enjoyable.

TechRaptor - Isaac Todd - 5.5 / 10

Open world Atelier could still work, but Atelier Yumia does a bad job at realising this idea. A generic story, dumbed down alchemy, and lacking open world all lead to a middling RPG.

The Games Machine - Majkol "Zaru" Robuschi - Italian - 8 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land Atelier Yumia represents a turning point for the series, offering a more ambitious experience than previous chapters. The open world formula only attempted in the past has finally managed to come true by following the path paved by the most popular gacha titles of the moment and the decision to make the narrative and gameplay of the series more in line with what one would expect from a classic JRPG will surely meet the preferences of a wider audience.

The Nerd Stash - Julio La Pine - 9 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & The Envisioned Land is a bold new approach to the series and a welcome evolution to most of its mechanics. With a strong cast of characters, an excellent story, and an enjoyable open world to explore, Yumia is here to become the queen of all Atelier heroines.

The Outerhaven Productions - Scott Adams - 5 / 5

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & The Envisioned Land is a fantastic entry into the Atelier series. Yumia is a fantastic protagonist for the series, and Aladiss is a fun continent to explore.

TheGamer - Quinton O'Connor - 4 / 5

If you dropped Final Fantasy VII Rebirth like a hot potato because the phrase “Regional Intel” haunted your dreams, you might need to give this game a skip, but for everybody else out there, expect a bit of a bumpy ride that is ultimately well worth the turbulence.

TheSixthAxis - Miguel Moran - 9 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a fresh step forward with just as much charm and joy as the rest of the series. It's an incredible starting point for newcomers and an exciting change of pace for long-time fans.

TheXboxHub - Richard Dobson - 4 / 5

It isn’t so much the story or the crafting elements that will keep you playing Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land, but simply uncovering every corner of this beautifully realised world.

Video Chums - A.J. Maciejewski - 8.8 / 10

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land presents an expansive and rewarding journey and I'm excited to see what the future has in store for the capable and lovely Yumia. This proves yet again that Atelier is up there with the best that RPGs have to offer. ✨

Wccftech - Kai Tatsumoto - 8.1 / 10

Sometimes too over-simplified, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land charts a new path for the series as they try to draw in new players that might have found the mandatory crafting and time limits of earlier Atelier titles too daunting.

Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 8 / 10

Overall, I really like most of the changes in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. There are a number of rough spots that keep it from being perfect, but it's a very solid attempt at shaking up the franchise without losing what makes it successful. I can see it being a controversial entry in the franchise due to the shift in tone and gameplay, but it does a lot of things right. I had a great time wandering around, collecting items, and crafting items and weapons. In general, it felt like I was on an adventure. It might not be the Atelier I was used to, but it was plenty of fun.

XboxEra - Genghis Husameddin - 8.5 / 10

Atelier Yumia’s first bout is a fun, open world crafting game that offers more than just clearing icons on a map—its verticality while offering player creativity through movement and housing tools make for a good time. It’s everything its developer has been building towards, and I’ve come away quite impressed with what they’ve got to offer.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster should still be considered a must-buy for anyone who considers themselves a classic JRPG fan and has even the tiniest amount of interest in the franchise, as this will be the first time that these two games will be available in HD and English for every modern platform (excluding mobile).

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars lets old fans enjoy the nostalgic journey while new players discover why Suikoden, especially Suikoden II, is considered one of the best RPGs of all time. With improved graphics, optimized gameplay and the same captivating story, the remaster is an asset to any RPG heart.

Cloud Dosage - Jon Scarr - 4 / 5

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster brings these RPG classics to modern platforms with sharper visuals, a cleaned-up translation, and a few quality-of-life tweaks. The political storytelling, fast-paced combat, and 108 Stars of Destiny recruitment system are just as strong as ever, though some gameplay mechanics show their age. It’s not a perfect remaster, but it’s the easiest way to experience two of the best RPGs of their time.

Comunidad Xbox - Mario Vadillo - Spanish - 85 / 100

Konami gives us the opportunity to relive the first two Suikoden adventures with all possible qualities of life, or to get to know an emblematic saga that had its origins a whopping 30 years ago.

Digitec Magazine - Kevin Hofer - German - 4 / 5

With “Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars”, Konami is adapting two of my favorite JRPGs for modern displays. Unlike Square Enix with the “Dragon Quest” remasters, however, the developer is not relying on the popular 2.5D style, but redesigning the backgrounds in HD. This may not look quite as pretty as 2.5D, but it remains true to the original.

Game Lodge - Arthur Tayt-Sohn - Portuguese - 9 / 10

Konami brings back two RPG classics, with one of them being one of the best in history. The complex world created by Yoshitaka Murayama continues to captivate even after so many decades. Just like the heroes he created, his work has had the power to gather thousands of dedicated fans and admirers who will once again experience the political plots of this fascinating world.

Game Rant - Matt Karoglou - 8 / 10

Konami Digital Entertainment's Suikoden I&II HD Remaster is light on updates, but it still delivers two of the greatest RPG experiences of all time.

GameSpot - Heidi Kemps - 6 / 10

Suikoden I and II are all-time RPG classics, but this remaster collection doesn't quite do them the justice they deserve

IGN Italy - Francesco Destri - Italian - 8.5 / 10

It's impossible not to love the first two chapters of Suikoden, which this HD collection brings back with extreme graphical care and some quality-of-life improvements.

IGN Spain - Aarón Márquez - Spanish - 8 / 10

Suikoden 1 and 2 are two more than solid JRPGs, which are a living example of the golden age of the genre, and which receive with this collection their best exponent to date. They are not perfect, and they drag certain rough edges from their original release, but they are two must-haves for any fan of the genre.

Infinite Start - Mark Fajardo - 10 / 10

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster is a fantastic revival of two classic JRPGs, offering improved visuals, smoother combat, and helpful quality-of-life features. The updated translation, trophies, new hard mode, and the option to adjust time-sensitive events make it more accessible to newcomers and veterans. With its engaging story, deep character development, and strategic gameplay, this remaster is a must-play for any JRPG fan.

Le Bêta-Testeur - Patrick Tremblay - French - 9.3 / 10

Replaying Suikoden I & II in this remastered version was a real journey through time. These games, which marked my childhood and adolescence, today retain all their narrative and playful power, sublimated by an update respectful of their heritage.

Loot Level Chill - Mick Fraser - 8 / 10

Fans will find so much to love in Suikoden I & II HD Remaster. They're relics of a simpler time, but it's hard to deny the sheer charm and likeability on offer.

MonsterVine - Nick Mangiaracina - 4 / 5

With the new audio, battle effects, battle speed, auto-save, and new translations Suikoden I & II HD Remaster is the definitive way to experience the first two Suikoden games. My only hope is that the rest of the games in the series receive this treatment.

Multiplayer First - James Lara - 9.5 / 10

At the end of the day, the remasters are exactly what you'd hope for out of a graphical update that remains faithful to the original releases. They are the definitive way to play through them, especially if you've never played through them before.

Sure, I would have loved to see just a bit more in terms of enhancements and new features when it comes to some of the gameplay elements and options. Still, this is a splendid collection that retains everything I loved about the originals, though now with a shinier coat of paint that makes it feel fresh and exciting to revisit. I can't think of a better way to reexperience these gems of a masterpiece, and though I don't feel as fondly for the latter iterations, I do hope this remaster paves the way for more collections in the series.

Niche Gamer - Throgmorton Belmont - 10 / 10

The Suikoden games often go out of their way to do these things, and that’s the kind of grit I miss from the genre. This is a fantastic remaster for Suikoden I and II, which are two of the greatest JRPGs ever made. The stars shine bright in this franchise, and I hope to see Suikoden III make a return now after this incredible change of events.

Nintendo Life - Alana Hagues - 8 / 10

While not as feature-rich as some collections, Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars proves that these RPGs have largely stood the test of time. While the issues with this remaster don't take away too much from the original games' brilliance, we think these classics deserve the very best. Boasting ambition, narrative stakes, and heart that few other RPGs of the time can muster, Suikoden burns bright in its origins, and we hope Konami sees just how important this series is to many and makes a handful of tweaks.

NintendoWorldReport - Neal Ronaghan - 8.5 / 10

If you've never played Suikoden II and consider yourself a lover of Japanese-made RPGs, you should already have this game pre-ordered. This is a game that belongs on the podium near the '90s classics from Square Enix. I'm not nearly as hot on Suikoden I, but the first game is more like the NES Final Fantasy entries to Suikoden II's SNES Final Fantasy entries. It's cool to see the evolution, but we all know what game has ascended to all-timer status.

PC Gamer - Kerry Brunskill - 79 / 100

These are decent enough remasters, but not the outstanding ones these RPGs deserved.

PSX Brasil - Thiago de Alencar Moura - Portuguese - 90 / 100

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is an exceptional collection of two important JRPGs, including one of the greatest masterpieces of the genre. The gameplay system works well, but the real highlight is the two great narratives that deserve to be played by any fan of the genre.

Push Square - Khayl Adam - 8 / 10

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars combine two incredible JRPGs from the genre's golden age on PS1, lovingly remastered and improved for PS5 and PS4. They suffer from the same issues many games did back in the day: unwieldy, occasionally grindy, and sometimes obtuse. Still, the package offers fans the chance to experience these lesser-known gems, and both deserve a place in the collection of any fan, even the least bit interested.

RPG Fan - Zach Wilkerson - 92 / 100

Suikoden I & II shine even more brightly here than they have for over 25 years. Plus, building up your base is still a blast, and I got the same dopamine hit every time I added someone to my army.

RPG Site - Paul Shkreli - 9 / 10

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars brings the classic pair of PSX-era titles to modern consoles in a delightful package.

Siliconera - Jenni Lada - 9 / 10

Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster might not have earth-shattering additions, but the graphical updates and quality of life adjustments make it a joy to return to these fantastic JRPGs games.

Spaziogames - Gianluca Arena - Italian - 7.5 / 10

Suikoden I - II HD Remaster is a good enough compilation to discover (or re-discover) two of the most influential JRPG of all time, both treated with respect and both still very enjoyable today. The budget Konami allocated for this project was probably minimal, but the effort put in recreating these two classics is commendable nonetheless.

The Games Machine - Majkol "Zaru" Robuschi - Italian - 7.5 / 10

Konami's Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars revives two beloved JRPG classics, preserving their deep storytelling and strategic gameplay. While the remaster improves visuals and adds quality-of-life updates, presentation leans heavily on HD aesthetics, which may divide longtime fans. The lack of a full retranslation and some dated mechanics hold it back from being a true definitive edition. Still, Suikoden II remains a masterpiece, and this collection is a welcome return for the franchise. Hopefully, Konami's renewed interest signals future installments or improvements.

TheGamer - James Kennedy - 3.5 / 5

The Gate Rune And Dunan Unification Wars is still the easiest way to access the first two games in the Suikoden franchise, and despite my many quibbles, the quality of the original titles bears out. That is more than enough to justify this collection’s existence, even if it does feel like a bit of a squandered opportunity.

TheSixthAxis - Miguel Moran - 8 / 10

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster is a polished window into JRPG history with only a few minor flaws that keep it from feeling absolutely perfect.

Uagna - Silvia Mannu - Italian - 8 / 10

The Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars collection not only allows us to dust off two revamped JRPG classics, but also breathes new hope into the Suikoden saga. We're delighted that Konami has brought new lustre to Murayama's work, and we hope that the PlayStation 2 chapters will also be converted in the future. And who knows, there might even be room for a Suikoden 6...

Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 9 / 10

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune & Dunan Unification Wars is an excellent updated port of two great games. Almost all of the changes are for the better, the translation is massively improved, and it still maintains all of the charm and flavor of the original games. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to the franchise, there's genuinely no better place to start than the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster. Even if you're just a fan of RPGs, it's well worth a try, if only to see what all the hype is about.

Saw an interesting conversation today on how we view Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest III as landmark titles of the genre even decades later.

Do you think these will remain classics down the line? Are there other current games you think will endure? Maybe the genre will look even more like mobile gaming? Or stay the same?

Not much here, but maybe a good sign we'll finally hear some announcements (even if it's not these games) from SQEX at/after the upcoming Nintendo Direct in April.

Forgotten Compositions: How Yuzo Koshiro Relived a Childhood Memory with 'Terranigma'

Recently, the legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro made an interesting announcement on social media, sharing how he had composed music for Terranigma, but only now remembered it after 28 years.

Today marks the 28th anniversary of Terranigma, and I’ve just remembered that I composed the theme for Beruga’s Laboratory!

Koshiro's statement is a reminder that prolific game music composers sometimes can't recall their older works due to the sheer volume of projects they've been involved with throughout their careers. Terranigma stands out as it was only released in Japan and PAL territories, which has made the game a rare gem for collectors and enthusiasts.

Interestingly, Koshiro is currently hard at work on Earthion, an upcoming Mega Drive/Genesis action shooter.

What's your favourite music track from Koshiro?

I'm probably about an hour into Ni no Kuni, which I bought on sale years back on steam, but so far I feel a bit underwhelmed compared to the hype.

I will say that my biggest complaint is really around the writing and the snails paced intro. Even if you accept the beginning as being a "Ghibli Movie" preface to a JRPG, I actually feel the direction and story telling is much worse than your average Ghibli production.

I'm just past talking to the old tree, and completed what is likely the first dungeon. So far, the battle system is ok but a little bit drab. I feel like the mechanics would have to pick up to make me enjoy the game more.

Should I give it more time? Are there eventually more choices in the battle system or minion growth? Will there be any stand out characters that might alter how I feel about the writing?
