This is kind of hilarious since Mark Rober is one of the biggest Tesla "fanboys". He was even planning on buying another one despite his own findings.
And he did address most of the conspiracy theories in multiple interviews. My summary:
- He has no stocks.
- He wasn't paid.
- Only his team had editorial control.
- He approached Luminar with explicit agreement that his video couldn't be used for advertising (prior to it even being filmed, so they could have flopped themselves).
- Tesla promoted autopilot as self-driving for years, so it's a plausible mistake to make (he should have known better though).
- Despite autopilot being used, results would be the same since both systems use the same sensors.
- There were 2 shoots, 3 weeks apart. One was with "paper wall" another with "foam wall". Both times Tesla failed the test.
- He welcomes people reproducing these tests.
