Reminder that you're closer to a millionaire than a millionaire is to a billionaire.

Thanks for the reminder, I should have a spare SSD lying around somewhere.

Lol, jokes on you, they're ALL made in China!

Howdy y'all!

I'm compiling data, for "personal" use, of companies that have recently (within a couple years) increased executive pay while slashing their workforce/benefits/pay. Sources appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Good day all!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my first home server question a couple months back. I've since been learning more about linux and recently trying to learn vim motions after improving my touch typing.

I'm currently negotiating a price to purchase a second hand ThinkStation S30 (mostly for the case) with the following insides:

  • Processor: Intel Xeon E5-1620 V1
  • Memory: Samsung 32GB DDR3 ECC RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia Quadro K4200

What Hardware considerations should I plan for in advance? Any upgrades or additional components I should look out for? What price is this even worth it at?

Any and all guidance appreciated! Thanks in advance!

What's your relationship with your neighbor? I'd say try to communicate with them before turning this into one of those stereotypical neighbor feuds.

Where to if you don't mind me asking? Good luck in your travels.

That's the word, thanks.

Rather than sink to their level, we should fight them with the same fervor and ferocity they bring. Nothing's more terrifying to a fascist than armed, newly extermized (if that's a word) lefties.

Because good doesn't have the stomach to go blow for blow with evil anymore.

I suspect a lot of us are just comfortable enough to not go full viva la revolution. Just know you're not alone.

And just like that, all the vague annoyances I've had just became tangible. Thanks.

Honestly, if the US invades Canada I'd be tried and executed for treason.

Thank you for your response. While I don't agree that it's too late, I'm glad you shared your point of view. It's my hope that we can prove that wrong in the coming years.

Hello friends,

(Fluff) Thank you for all the replies to my previous post. I hope you'll excuse me for asking an unpleasant question, but it was to lead into this next one. (Fluff over)

(Question) To my global human allies and to my fellow inhabitants of the land of fiefdom, what is your breaking point?

At what point does the enshitification, or the grift, or the lies, or the hate, or the multitude of grievances thrust upon us become too much? What do you do when it all becomes too bleak to bear? (Question over)

For those of us planning protest I would advise you to bring PPE (safety goggles, basic first aid, etc.) Try not to bring your phone, and if you must record try a dedicated camera/camcorder. Wear common, ambiguous clothing free of branding. Wear clothing that does not allow your body type to be profiled. Let those who know you well, and that you trust know where you're going and have a plan in case you're injured or incarcerated. Try, if possible, to have an ingress/egress plan that does not involve a registered vehicle. This is not a comprehensive list, but it's what I can think of off the top of my head?

For those of us planning less civil means of protest, I cannot help you on this forum.

For those of us not in the position to take action, direct or indirect, please advocate and support those who can.

Most importantly, know that you are not alone. Foster community, identify the leaders among us, identify your goals and plan to achieve them.

Thank you, again, for you time

Hello everybody,

What is the company and corporation that is the object of your hate? What did/do they do to get that spot for you?

Mine is Facebook/Meta for their egregious data collection policies, psychological manipulation of its users, and more recently, them not seeding content.

Thanks in advance for your time! Have a good one!

Good day people!

(This paragraph is fluff, feel free to skip) First I'd like to thanks everyone who has answered my questions thus far. A of now I'm daily driving CachyOS on my "laptop" and Bazzite on my gaming PC. I've settled on Hyprland after running with sway for a few days and have been forcing myself to solve problems and do file management using the CLI exclusively (excluding firefox for duckduckgoosing help). I've gotten semi-comfortable manipulating files, but haven't had to do anything too skill intensive yet.

On to the question! I am currently looking to set up a home server. My use case is for storing media, specifically videos (for watching) and game Roms (for playing older games on emulator). With this use case in mind, what's a good resource to learn how to get started? For those who have home servers set up with similar purposes, how did you arrive at your current set-up? What considerations should i take before, during, and after set-up?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thank in advance! Hope to hear from you all soon!

Good day all!

First I'd like to thank all the people who replied to my first post and provided so much valuable information! Since then I've been trying to force myself to get comfortable with using the terminal! To this end I've been running Sway as my Desktop Environment and printed out a cheat sheet to place next to my screen.

Now, a paragraph deep, for the question(s):

How do y'all customize your terminals? I'm not looking for tutorials, just your preferences. How long did it take for you to settle on your favourite? What did you prioritize when customizing? What customization are you fondest of?

Thanks in advance to any and all replies, hope to hear from you all soon!

Good day all,

I'm currently about 3 months into using Linux exclusively for personal computing and gaming. I stared out trying EndeavourOs /w the Linux Surface kernel on my Surface, having now settled on Manjaro on my surface and CachyOS on my gaming rig.

So far the experience has been relatively painless. Now, having settled down comfortably into a rhythm of running sudo pacman -Syu, getting lost in the AUR and wiki, I feel like exploring more into what Linux has to offer.

So, on to my question, what do i do now? There's a bit of choice paralysis for me. Where did you all decide to dig in first? What resources did you use? What projects did you take on to deepen your knowledge? What do you feel is essential for crossing the threshold from average user to almost-superuser, then from there and beyond?

Thanks in advance for your time. Hope to hear from you all soon.
