The masses will either eventually migrate to ActivityPub, or have their entire digital lives consumed by oligarchs. It's just a fight between finally deciding that maybe ease-of-use doesn't mean "good," and losing every ounce of your identity and ability to express your thoughts and feelings.

And that's the kicker. Bluesky can never be meaningfully decentralized.

Ah yes, "free our feeds" where millionaire VCs are asking for donations

What in the heck happened lol we go from a generation of people building PCs, using DOS, hacking around in Windows and debloating operating systems, to people who can't function unless their phone tells them what to do

I mean, they're going to have to. There's no other choice at this point

I'm honestly tired of seeing people make the excuse that switching to activitypub is "too hard" because they have to pick a server. It's 2025, is half of the population experiencing an intelligence regress or something

Yeah, that's true. If they're not using names, then there's not a whole lot you can do. And blocking IPs is impossible, because they use different IPs constantly.

But!

With my post, and your suggestions, this is the "something" that's better than doing absolutely nothing

I was scouring the indie-web earlier, and found a pretty useful list of bots to add to your robots.txt. But, since I'm not convinced that this is enough to keep them away, I also figured out a simple way to at least potentially completely block them from accessing your websites.

I honestly don't know, but that would be hilarious

Yeah, Reddit's got /r/linuxsucks

For whatever reason, Reddit's algorithm decided I should start seeing that community, and I've always struggled to figure out if it's just Linux users shitposting, or if there are people out there who really just have huge boners for Microsoft

Did these developers completely miss Baldurs Gate 3

I watch YouTube, and some shows on streaming apps, but traditional tv hasn’t existed for me since about 2008
