That wording you did there is perfect, that's the exact kind of precise wording people need to be hearing, not this other relational wording junk.

Road trip tips (lemmy.zip)

I'm going on a 8 hour drive in a 2012 equinox for the first time, longest drive before was 2 hours back when I was a newer driver.

The car does not have any smart phone type features like the newer cars, it will connect the phone for calls but that is it, there is a charging port but I'm guessing its usb2 so it won't be all that fast and may not keep up with the phone, I have a battery bank and plenty of cables though, I won't be stopping for those Bluetooth FM cigarette plug things because I'll just being doing this the one time and it doesn't seem useful enough to me.

I am very confident behind the wheel but just curious if anyone has any tips I haven't thought about before.

I don't think I'll get very tired driving but I am known to get a slump of energy a couple hours after lunch but I don't think I'll eat a very big lunch so I may not have much of a slump.

I am driving this car back, I came here in a truck with another driver, something interesting I noticed between trucks vs small cars is that the taller trucks leave you less exhausted and so you can drive longer with an easier time because there is a perceived slower speed of things moving in and out past your field of vision.

Thankyou in advance!

Update after the trip: I had to drive through the literal worst possible conditions, late night and with heavy rain, but it went super good, the car I was driving handled the rain no problem and I had loads of fun driving, I did not use the radio at all because I figured if driving tiredness was about stamina then less stimulation should keep my going longer, tiredness was not an issue and I did sip some mountain dew the whole time I realized that I could just not have a energy drop after the caffeine weara off by just drip feeding the drink basically lol, that was a great idea as I had plenty of energy the whole time and slept well after. Basically I just enjoyed babbling to myself and playing my mind radio. I think in hr future I am going to drive more because this was actually more fun than being a passenger in the car. I did stop about every 2 hours as I was coordinating dinner and stops for the other car I was following which had a dog and grandma and dad.

My cartoons that I remember as a kid were 4kidstv shows, whatever was on there at the time, so I guess things like kirby, tmnt, sonic x, wins club, yugioh, chaotic. One piece was apparently a thing that was on at the time too but I wasn't really interested in it at all. There are some other shows tucked away in my memories that may or may not be from 4kidstv but I feel like they sit in that timeframe as a kid...idk what these other shows are, I just know I'm forgetting a few.

How did they also not fall once they passed the equator lol

Unironiclaly I would love to see a useful version of a flowchart like this, it would be so easy to share something like this around to people in order to try out the fediverse compared to everything else.

Here's hope to ladybird, it seems like a recipe for good things but its still like a year out if I recall for a beta release or something

So I looked into this more and basically Darth is a title given to sith lords, others have had it like Darth tyranus and Darth sidious, but here is the kicker.

Darth Vader's fatherhood was only conceived of after the character was introduced in empire strikes back, so the name was not necessarily related to fatherhood in the story and the only reason I could think of for it existing is just because it sounded cool.

A possible reason could be that Darth is a combo of dark and death and Vader is possibly short for invader.

Otherwise I'm not sure if there is any clear reason for the name that is undeniably the reason for the name.

How do the sith come up with these names anyways?

Are they always given by the master?

And what is the reason for doing this at all?

What does Darth Vader even mean?

What a great day to be a grayjay user lol

toxic masculinity, tons of people aware of the bad things but most people think its taboo for men to think about their social reformation.

Some of my more well versed lady friends basically describe it like "the women can't do all the social reformation, men gotta do their part too"

Would be nice to make this thread into a list of resources, like groups, YouTube channels, websites, books, whatever.

It would be very helpful to define these things for people too I think, I don't think there is a name for men's social revolution yet, or at least one that is well known.

I guess i was taking the more generous route with the term then, I was treating capability to interact on the platform as federated which in hindsight doesn't make as much sense as in the normal context of it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This is the point I was making yes

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I think we are meaning the same thing then

In that case matrix also doesn't federate because its not interacting with the fediverse like here on lemmy.

But revolt, matrix, and rocket.chat are all deployable by end users to connect to the platform and interact with people.

I keep noticing that if I want a smart device, they often require you to have a hub for them.

But is there any ways in which we don't need to get the hub if we can set up something on a esp32?

Or maybe I guess I need to know the actual purpose of what the hubs are for, for instance we have a house lock with a hub, I am about to receive some automated blinds with a hub, my bedroom lights do not have a hub (one light is a wled light and the other is a store ought ceiling light), my humidifier does not have a hub.

Yoo this is actually kinda sick, its star trek inspired clothing line.

They dont scream star trek but any fan will not miss it if they notice, I'm not sure I'd wear any around much even if I got one just because they are still slightly noticeable as not usual clothing but they just look like fancy clothes, some of them like the v necks or hoodies seem like they would be pretty wearable though. They sell the old dresses too, they stand out like a sore thumb lol If you are into leather jackets they would work well, they don't stand out much but still very much seem like star trek.

They are suuuper expensive though I think the materials reflect their price

And they sell cool golden metal star trek badges

Today I learned that it is illegal to sell tritium in the us but it is not illegal to buy it in the us...so here is a website selling tritium trinkets that come from taiwan!

They are like glow sticks that last for 10 years, it is perfectly safe unless maybe you were drinking liquid tritium for a few weeks.

Got my pictures of the total lunar eclipse together, this was my first attempt at doing a final collage photo at each phase, which I kind of bunged up the timings a little bit but it still turned out good enough.

Wow thankyou everyone! I was not expecting to get 280+ upvotes

In terms mamalian biomass, humans make up 36%, our livestock makes up 60% and every other wild mammal makes up just 4% of the mamalian biomass, witch is absolutelly wild In terms of all animals, we make up 2.5% of biomass, and in terms of all living things we make up 0.01% biomass

I am looking to migrate from mastodon to friendica because my mastodon server is shutting down and the idea of friendicas all in one platform approach fits my needs/wants out of my use case. Which is basically me wanting a personal account for my real identity, its not something im looking to use a lot just a way I can see the rest of the fediverse in a easy way that is separate from my internet identity.

I think this guy also made some other ads that are just as hilarious too but I may be misremembering, feel free to link them below too.

This is funny to me because san-disk literally means no disk, same as how sans serif means no serifs.

Anyone else feeling like there's a conflict of interest by how it's the job of the news businesses to report things about the Olympics while also being the ones who supply money to the olympics, like theya rent going to want to report bad stuff about it because then it says they are supporting that stuff.
