The number of children who have died in the Gaza Strip due to severe malnutrition has risen to 66, the enclave's media office said on Saturday.

In a press statement released today, the Government Media Office said Israel's actions constitute "a war crime and a crime against humanity," demonstrating the Israeli army's "deliberate use of starvation as a weapon to exterminate civilians—especially children—in blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions".

At least 21 Palestinians were killed and several others injured on Saturday in a series of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the death toll of children who have died from hunger and malnutrition has reached 66, as Israel’s blockade, closure of border crossings, and restrictions on aid continue.

‘Ha’aretz’ article accusing Israeli soldiers of firing on aid seekers a ‘blood libel,’ Netanyahu says (Jewish News Syndicate, 2025-06-27)

>> The article “‘It’s a killing field’: IDF soldiers ordered to shoot deliberately at unarmed Gazans waiting for humanitarian aid” in the left-wing Israeli paper Ha’aretz contains “contemptible blood libels,” stated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz on Friday.

>> The Ha’aretz article cites anonymous Israeli soldiers and officers, who it says accused the IDF of firing on Gazans who posed no danger to them.

>> The Israeli military has said that it fires warning shots in certain instances and that it has identified suspicious people among the aid seekers.

>> While Israel’s Military Advocate General ordered an investigation into the allegations on Friday, the IDF has denied the claims made in the article …

Opinion - Michelle Goldberg June 27, 2025

"Mamdani’s pro-Palestinian politics have sparked enormous alarm among some New York Jews, but he’s also won considerable Jewish support. In a poll of likely Jewish voters done by the Honan Strategy Group in May, Andrew Cuomo came in first, with 31 percent of the vote, but Mamdani was second, with 20 percent. On Tuesday, he won most of Park Slope, a neighborhood full of progressive Jews, and held his own on the similarly Jewish Upper West Side.

“His campaign has attracted Jewish New Yorkers of all types,” wrote Jay Michaelson, a columnist at the Jewish newspaper The Forward. The rabbi who runs my son’s Hebrew school put Mamdani on his ballot, though he didn’t rank him first. And while Mamdani undoubtedly did best among left-leaning and largely secular Jews, he made a point of reaching out to others. After he gave an interview to Der Blatt, an ultra-Orthodox Yiddish newspaper, Rabbi Moishe Indig, the leader of a faction of Hasidic Jews, told The New York Times, “As mayor, we wouldn’t have a problem with him.” (Though Indig considered adding Mamdani to his endorsement slate, he ultimately decided against it.)"

"On Tuesday, the National Gathering of Palestinians Tribes, Clans, and Families convened a meeting in Gaza City to launch the initiative. “These trucks arriving in besieged Gaza—which has been starved for 90 days by our enemy—must reach their rightful recipients, the needy,” said Abu Salman al-Mughni, a tribal leader.[...]For this reason, the tribes, from all factions, have united to secure these trucks, ensuring they reach the warehouses and are then distributed fairly to all our people.”"

Successful local Palestinian efforts to organise the entry of aid to northern Gaza have prompted fresh restrictions by the Israeli military and violent looting by criminal gangs.

Relief was brought into north Gaza for the first time in a month on Wednesday by local tribes, drawing anger from Israeli officials and members of the Israeli public.

Northern Gaza has been under full siege since March, when Israel blocked all aid and goods from entering the territory and created a severe hunger crisis.

In late May, the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF), a recently launched and scandal-hit aid group, began distributing limited food parcels at four locations in south and central Gaza.

The northern parts of the Palestinian enclave remain largely cut off from aid distributed through this mechanism. However, Israel has recently allowed a limited number of aid trucks carrying only wheat flour to enter some areas of the north.

According to local reports, the recent Palestinian-led relief delivery, backed by local clans, saw several trucks enter safely and successfully, with their contents distributed on Thursday.

Footage circulating online show dozens of trucks carrying aid from the United Nations World Food Programme entering the northern Gaza Strip.

‘They attack us without provocation’: West Bank town mourns its dead after settler raid (Guardian, 2025-06-26)

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jun/26/west-bank-town-kafr-malik-mourns-its-dead-israeli-settler-attack
———

>> Three men from this central West Bank town [Kafr Malik], one a teenager, lay dead and several others were still in hospital after an attack by about 100 Israeli settlers on Wednesday evening. The men of Kafr Malik had run to its south-western edge to form a screen against the settlers and rescue women and children trapped in a house set alight by the masked attackers.

>> But as they threw stones at the settlers in an attempt to drive them back, the Israel army, who had taken up position behind the marauders, opened fire at the Palestinians.

>> Five settlers who took part in the attack were detained. According to press reports and human rights activists, they were released without charge early on Thursday morning…

Israel has closed crossings into northern Gaza, cutting the most direct route for aid to reach hundreds of thousands of people at risk of famine, as airstrikes and shelling killed dozens more people in the devastated Palestinian territory.

The move to close the crossings on Thursday will increase diplomatic pressure on Israel as attention shifts from its brief conflict with Iran, back to the violence and grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

During the 12 days Israel was fighting Iran, more than 800 Palestinians were killed in Gaza – either shot as they desperately sought food in increasingly chaotic circumstances or in successive waves of Israeli strikes and shelling.

The spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defence agency, Mahmud Bassal, said Israeli forces had killed 56 people on Thursday, including six who were waiting for food in two separate locations.
