While this is just a theory for the most part it is kind of interesting to think about. What if the double empathy problem is really just people who socialize like Neanderthals

Are there good tests? All tests that I have done so far don't make sense, the questions are general and hard to answer. I don't go to social events and I don't meet new people often so I can't answer how would i feel about it and they don't give an option to skip the question. And how am I supposed to know if people around notice small sounds or not? Such questions don't make sense to me. Deepseek bot told me that not understanding how to answer tests might be a trait by itself. Do you have any good tests for potential autistic person to do to figure out more about themselves?

So I only recently heard that it is an actual autism thing for the comfort zone for stimulation levels to be pretty small in general for autistic people, causing both overstimulation and understimulation to easily occur. I had noticed this previously in myself, but I just thought something like: "I guess I maybe have ADHD as well then?". The main questions (though responses not answering these are also appreciated): do you also experience feeling both simultaneously at times? Or that the comfort zone has a negative size in general?

Last day of on call. I would actually enjoy it if not for the disruption in sleep.

This is a daily post for “casual” conversation. If you want to post or talk about something non autism related this is where to do it. For example if you want to info dump about your special interest but it doesn’t fall into “autism related” then you can post it here in the comments. All other rules are still active, be respectful to each other.

Well, after much thought I've handed my diagnosis letter in to work. Let's see what happens!

I'm expecting an invite for a 'lovely' chat with OCC health, and maybe something from HR... The joys of working in a large company. Other than that, I don't expect much too change, at last that's what I hope for.

This feels both momentous and an anticlimax.

Any time someone talks about "exciting research in Autism treatment and cures" this is where my mind goes.

I was prescribed melatonin when I was 11. In the UK it is only available via prescription (source on that: https://www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk/health-advice/sleep/melatonin/why-is-melatonin-banned-in-the-uk/#article )

My sleep schedule was haywire (hormones + emerging gender dysphoria did not help) but melatonin really helped me. I also think it helped my anxiety a bit? I'm not sure if that was just bc I was sleeping better but I have terrible social anxiety and it seemed to take the edge off it. anyone else? :)

One of the frustrations of being on call is I can't do anything to involved. I need to take my printer apart but I'm afraid if I do I will get called out to work. And I don't want to leave it taken apart.

Want to hear a joke? I'm a little autistic... I'm five foot five and autistic. So I'm a little autistic!

I'm learning French, long ago I found the idiom "c'est la vie" (this is life), and I like it quite a lot, it describes struggles that are common to human life, but then I found this one "c'est la vie de l'autiste" "this is the life for the autistic (person)", and I kinda fell in love with the idiom.

I think it is a beautiful idiom to describe our common struggles and hardships we face as autists, our shared problems and experience navigating trough life, and I thought I would like to share it, because I think is such a nice way to describe what unite us as autistic persons, the common struggles.

We get misunderstood, we misunderstand, we don't get the context, we hurt people without intention, we can't tolerate food, noises, textures, we get obsess on the topics we love only to find people don't care as much as we do, and so much more, for sure, for most autists, only some of these things are true for them, but on average, they are very real.

And yeah, I'm only focusing on the sad, there are a lot of good things about being autistic, but this idiom isn't for that

I’ve got my shower routine down to a science and I do it exactly the same way every time, to minimize the time I spend there (I love being in the shower once I’m there, but I also feel guilty about water waste). This is what I do:

-Get the water to temperature against the wall and then get under the stream fully, getting my hair as wet as possible

-Turn the shower off and shampoo my hair. I wash my outer ears, neck, and face with the shampoo suds

-Turn the water back on, rinse everything fully, get my shower mitt wet, then turn the water off again, and squeeze as much water as possible out of my hair

-Adjust the shower head down, so it doesn’t hit above my neck, then soap up my shower mitt and wash my arms, armpits, chest, stomach, back, and legs

-Turn the water back on to rinse my body off and use the mitt under the water to wash my feet, and rinse the mitt out before turning the water off again

-Squeeze the mitt out and hang it up, then soap up my hands and wash my bellybutton and crotch, turn the water on again to rinse, and soap up to wash my ass with the water running

-Turn the water off and apply baby oil to my arms, neck, chest, back, and legs, then turn the water on again to wash my hands, before shutting it off for good

-Squeeze my hair out once more, and then get my towel to dry my hair first (on the tag side)

-Get out of the shower, and dry my body off with the other side of the towel, feet and groin last

-Brush my hair out with my head hanging down above the shower floor and then towel dry it again over the shower

-Hang the towel up and use a qtip or two if needed

-Clean the shower floor and drain of hair.

Do you folks have any very specific routines that you’ve developed?

So I may have a new hyper fixation. I have now purchased a metal Irish Tin Whistle. My cats like to sing along.
