You can do anything you set your mind to! Except for those things you are unable to do due to your disabilities.

This is a daily post for “casual” conversation. If you want to post or talk about something non autism related this is where to do it. For example if you want to info dump about your special interest but it doesn’t fall into “autism related” then you can post it here in the comments. I'm learning French, long ago I found the idiom "c'est la vie" (this is life), and I like it quite a lot, it describes struggles that are common to human life, but then I found this one "c'est la vie de l'autiste" "this is the life for the autistic (person)", and I kinda fell in love with the idiom.

I think it is a beautiful idiom to describe our common struggles and hardships we face as autists, our shared problems and experience navigating trough life, and I thought I would like to share it, because I think is such a nice way to describe what unite us as autistic persons, the common struggles.

We get misunderstood, we misunderstand, we don't get the context, we hurt people without intention, we can't tolerate food, noises, textures, we get obsess on the topics we love only to find people don't care as much as we do, and so much more, for sure, for most autists, only some of these things are true for them, but on average, they are very real.

And yeah, I'm only focusing on the sad, there are a lot of good things about being autistic, but this idiom isn't for that

I’ve got my shower routine down to a science and I do it exactly the same way every time, to minimize the time I spend there (I love being in the shower once I’m there, but I also feel guilty about water waste). This is what I do:

-Get the water to temperature against the wall and then get under the stream fully, getting my hair as wet as possible

-Turn the shower off and shampoo my hair. I wash my outer ears, neck, and face with the shampoo suds

-Turn the water back on, rinse everything fully, get my shower mitt wet, then turn the water off again, and squeeze as much water as possible out of my hair

-Adjust the shower head down, so it doesn’t hit above my neck, then soap up my shower mitt and wash my arms, armpits, chest, stomach, back, and legs

-Turn the water back on to rinse my body off and use the mitt under the water to wash my feet, and rinse the mitt out before turning the water off again

-Squeeze the mitt out and hang it up, then soap up my hands and wash my bellybutton and crotch, turn the water on again to rinse, and soap up to wash my ass with the water running

-Turn the water off and apply baby oil to my arms, neck, chest, back, and legs, then turn the water on again to wash my hands, before shutting it off for good

-Squeeze my hair out once more, and then get my towel to dry my hair first (on the tag side)

-Get out of the shower, and dry my body off with the other side of the towel, feet and groin last

-Brush my hair out with my head hanging down above the shower floor and then towel dry it again over the shower

-Hang the towel up and use a qtip or two if needed

-Clean the shower floor and drain of hair.

Do you folks have any very specific routines that you’ve developed?

So I may have a new hyper fixation. I have now purchased a metal Irish Tin Whistle. My cats like to sing along.

Not only did it take me 23 years to figure out that this constant, never-ending and subtle 'something is NOT right' feeling was actually gender dysphoria, I feel like I have to play a constant game of trial and error with my emotions even for the tiniest of things.

I'll squirm uncomfortably for hours on end, stuck in 'functional freeze', feeling like I just have to relax because I'm stressed from work, but what I'm actually feeling is HUNGER.

Then I eat something and try to remember what hunger feels like, but end up doing the exact same thing as soon as I wake up the next morning.

Don't even get me started on shopping groceries... If I don't buy the EXACT ten items I always buy, I'll be stuck for twenty minutes in front of the cheese isle and try to logically deduct which of these cheeses I might like, because I don't have any gut instincts whatsoever.

I'm not that bad at reading others others emotions, because I have learned the signs of body language, but I can't look at myself in the mirror and have a conversation with myself to see how I react to things when I'm out and about. I just have to know what I feel, which is kinda impossible sometimes.

I just sat in silence in front of my computer for the past few hours, feeling this tangled blob inside of me that tells me 'Hey, you want something! Better figure out what it is.'

After two hours of trying to: watch a show, eat more, shower and change clothes (none of which worked), I remembered: 'Ah, I like listening to music and I haven't done that in a few days' - so I put in my headphones and then it's like 'Ah yes, that's what I've been missing'.

Going through this all the time is SOOO exhausting! I HAVE TO sleep 10+ hours every night to recharge from experiencing conscious reality - and people still wonder why I dropped out of college xD

We went to the Opera on Saturday. Never been to an opera before. It wasn't a classic Italian opera. It was a modern Mexican opera with Mariachis. But being an opera it was still sad.

I don't know this person or their credentials with a grain of salt, but, uh.... wow.
