In the United States (the prison capital of the world), prisons are nothing more than the spiritual successor to slavery in all but name. They are a racist institution in a country that was openly founded on colonialism and genocide.

"But whatabout the really bad™ people???"

See the post, and also CW: Reality. Donald The Fucking Nazi Rapist Trump is a free man, and he will always be a free man, and if he does see "prison," it will be all for show in some country club "prison," not with the rest of us normies. Joseph Biden has more blood on his hands than the worst serial killer in history, and he's the fucking president! And he's also got a protective circle of brainwashed individuals defending him!

You think really bad™ people go to prison? Only if they're also part of a marginalized group. The prison system was never intended to address actual injustice, unless that "injustice" is one of the things referenced in the post.

THE NEW YORK TIMES instructed journalists covering Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip to restrict the use of the terms “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” and to “avoid” using the phrase “occupied territory” when describing Palestinian land, according to a copy of an internal memo obtained by The Intercept.

The memo also instructs reporters not to use the word Palestine “except in very rare cases” and to steer clear of the term “refugee camps” to describe areas of Gaza historically settled by displaced Palestinians expelled from other parts of Palestine during previous Israeli–Arab wars. The areas are recognized by the United Nations as refugee camps and house hundreds of thousands of registered refugees.

The Times memo outlines guidance on a range of phrases and terms. “The nature of the conflict has led to inflammatory language and incendiary accusations on all sides. We should be very cautious about using such language, even in quotations. Our goal is to provide clear, accurate information, and heated language can often obscure rather than clarify the fact,” the memo says.

“Words like ‘slaughter,’ ‘massacre’ and ‘carnage’ often convey more emotion than information. Think hard before using them in our own voice,” according to the memo. “Can we articulate why we are applying those words to one particular situation and not another? As always, we should focus on clarity and precision — describe what happened rather than using a label.”

Despite the memo’s framing as an effort to not employ incendiary language to describe killings “on all sides,” in the Times reporting on the Gaza war, such language has been used repeatedly to describe attacks against Israelis by Palestinians and almost never in the case of Israel’s large-scale killing of Palestinians.

EDIT: READ THE SIDEBAR BEFORE COMMENTING HERE

There's now going to be a war against Iran, and the US media is portraying Iran as the aggressor, even though Israel blew up Iran's embassy. THAT should have been a call to end support for the genocidal ethnostate of Israel and call for a ceasefire, but instead we're doubling down on support.

Also, friendly reminder that Israel would not be able to do this without US support. Biden could have ended this, but chose not to.

What is your defense now? How can you still justify supporting this genocidal maniac? How low is too low for you? How much suffering is too much? How many lives have to be ended or destroyed because of Biden? How much is enough that you are willing to protest, speak out against it, or at the very least not defend it in some deranged manner with "aT lEaSt He'S nOt TrUmP." People are dying. Imagine being the caliber of person who can excuse this and say this, or even approve of him and say he's doing well.

Literally the only way to look the other way is by convincing yourself that Iranians and Palestinians aren't really human. "Scratch a liberal, and a fascist bleeds" -- maaaannnn I used to think this was a bit overstated, but it's really no exaggeration at all, is it?

Edit: Lol at the right-wing neolibs who can't help but parrot their genocide-defending bullshit in spaces where they're not welcome. Thanks for providing examples of exactly what this post is about. Imagine thinking the person who is literally making a genocide possible is also the person who is "best for Palestinians."

...the root cause of shortages of low-cost, off-patent generic drugs is well established. These drugs have razor-thin to non-existent profit margins...

Sounds like a system that prioritizes profit margins over human life needs to be removed.

Capitalism is a death cult.

Reminder that he has threatened Iran because (checks notes) Israel has fucking bombed them and apparently retaliating defensively is wrong, but US funding a genocide is not? Maybe we should fight back against ourselves?

Oh, and so much for upholding the constitution. Wasn't that supposed to be the exact thing we're avoiding by Voting Blue No Matter Who™?

More blood on his hands and more cruelty than the worst serial killer in history, and this raging fascist is the best Democrats have to offer? If you support this guy, you better do some fucking soul searching to learn what the fuck is wrong with you.

So sick of this guy and his fashlib supporters.

In Hawaii, one of the most important sayings is ola i ka wai, "water is life" — a phrase that not only sums up what it means to exist on an island, but what it means to live, period. But now, one of the largest of the island chain's land masses is facing a triple threat to its sole freshwater source, and if it isn't addressed soon, one community member says, "we're in deep trouble."

Despite being surrounded by seemingly endless ocean, freshwater on Oahu, the third-largest of Hawaii's six major islands, is not easily accessible. The island relies on an underground aquifer for its water supply. Replenishing that aquifer is a decades-long natural process, as it takes a single drop of water roughly 25 years to make it there from the sky.

And recent years have seen compounding problems: less rain, leading to significant droughts, and repeated jet fuel leaks and PFAS chemical spills contaminating water systems. All of this significantly limits available water use for locals, many of whom say tourism is only worsening the situation. Just months ago, the world's largest surfing wave pool opened up on the island — filled with freshwater.

I recommended this book in another comment, but I think it's an important book, especially considering how we can often feel isolated and helpless to effect change

I have no delusions of this getting through to the liberal centrists who need to hear it. If being made aware of Israel's atrocities (which the US is making possible) doesn't persuade them, then I don't think this will -- but maybe it will get through to people who have accidentally been propagandized by these centrists.
