- Lemmy.world is not loading, and I am encountering an error when opening a new page.

Please start by checking the following links to see if Lemmy.world is experiencing any issues:

- I am experiencing an issue with the client I'm using.

Are you using a client other than the website itself? Is the issue specific to that client? If so, please contact the developer of the app or web client you are using.

Here are some popular apps/web clients you can reach out to:

- I am unable to create a community, and I keep seeing a spinning circle.

Please check if the desired community name is available.

- There is a community I want to moderate, but the moderators appear to be inactive.

Please email us at [email protected] or create a post in this community.

- Did we defederate, or did someone else defederate from us?

Visit https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/lemmy.world for information about defederation of any instance.

Alternatively check https://defed.xyz/ and enter "lemmy.world" to view a complete list of defederations.

- I cannot access my account.

For assistance with account access issues, please email us at [email protected]. We cannot assist with these matters in the comments section due to privacy concerns.

- Why am I banned from this specific community?

Lemmy offers transparency, and you can check the modlog of the community to understand the reason behind the ban. If you have further questions, feel free to send a private message to one of the moderators. If you have other issues, please email us at [email protected].

- Can this feature be added to the website?

If you would like to request a feature to be added to Lemmy, please contact the Lemmy developers on GitHub or reach out to the developer of your preferred (web) client. Instances like ours cannot directly add features to the website.

I thought I couldn't post to https://sh.itjust.works/ for days when I could before. I kept getting this error "Language not supported" and found that changing it from English to "Unsupported" makes the submission go through.

Any ideas for why that is?

I've noticed this for a while and I'm not sure what the word for it is, but the encoding of certain characters is broken for post titles in RSS/XML for me. For example the title for this post https://lemmy.world/post/26952497 in RSS is:

MMO scholar puts a $500 bounty on old versions of RuneScape as part of a community archive project: "You might have ALL of the game**'s lost versions!"**

I use FreshRSS but it looks like this in the raw RSS output which you can get from the RSS button on the homepage. Does anyone else have this?

It recently came to my attention that .world may be using the censor function of the Lemmy software.

https://lemmy.world/post/27005229/15775834

Is this a recent development? Regardless, I feel that it's counterproductive and unhelpful.

  1. The sorting method does not have a description in the help page (the little question mark link)

  2. Sorting posts by Controversial doesn't show them by date, so I need to scroll through, looking at the date to find anything recent.

I like sorting by Controversial for entertainment purposes, and to make sure the comment I intend to make, which I expect to be controversial, hasn't already been made--which means I should just upvote the existing comment.

It's not like I make a ton of controversial comments, but sometimes my thoughts do run counter to the hivemind, and I want to say so.

This post was deleted from [email protected] in the last few hours: https://lemmy.world/post/26997415

I can tell, because I have this in my inbox:

(the *Permanently Deleted* bit still has the link to the URL).

The post title was "what's your favourite book" or something similar.

But there's nothing in the modlog that shows this. How come?

I would like to request to take over moderation of the community: https://lemmy.world/c/virginia

The current mod "@[email protected] gabowo" has been inactive for 2 years and the last mod action for the community was also 2 years ago (https://lemmy.world/modlog/4102).

All moderators have been inactive for more than a year. The information contained in sidebar and pinned guides could use some updating. Its important that newcomers can access the latest relevant information in our quickly evolving hobby.

I have been a somewhat active poster and commenter of this localllama community for approximately half a year. I am the moderator of Lemmy.world/c/metaldetecting. I would like to help actively maintain another community I feel passionate in growing. I understand the responsibility that comes with the role.

I also understand that as a potential moderator of another instances community, I would be limited in certain actions. I am prepared to make a local instance account in the scenario that ever becomes a issue.

Everything seems to have shifted to pipes instead of caching in almost all posts here on LW through the Alexandrite interface. Is this a permanent change?

I've been appointed as a mod 3 times now.

The action shows up in the modlog straight away, but it always takes a couple of hours until it actually works. Then, serveral hours later it seems to just reverse itself.

I suspect it has to do with ongoing federation issues on the side of lemmus.org (the instance of the head mod account). All post from lemmy.world are delayed by about 12 hours on that instance.

Maybe the delayed federation somehow messes with the mod appointments?

There's an issue where trolls will "@" people who blocked them because it will still send a notification.

Sometimes it's just people who always do it, so it's likely unintentional.

But it's pretty obvious from a post history glance when they're only doing it with people who never respond to them. And definitely obvious after someone tells them about it

Example:

https://lemmy.world/comment/15711438

Is there anyway to make mention notification abide by the blocklist?

If not should we be reporting harassment to our admins or the admins of the account doing it?

And no, I am not alt of anyone here, so I'm not just trying to inflate the numbers of the defense. The admins of lemm.ee can attest to this if they have my IP address, as admins in the days of old forums used to have (I would be really, really surprised if they didn't and couldn't provide it). Neither do I use a VPN. I am too poor for those. That hasn't, however, stopped me from being dragged into this mess for good by the peoples' infamous chancellor Davel, who it seems isn't new to doxxing either (though the random lying is new, if that is to be believed), or LGBT-phobia, which I would like to expose because me and the subject previously discussed the suicide of someone else who recently was dragged into this mess, all because people didn't like that they, too, were defending (which they expressed with empathy towards his transphobic boyfriend), so as long as everyone wants to expose LGBT-phobes.

It disheartens me this is the info I will be starting with, assuming I get to be questioned. As someone who is LGBT, would I be wrong in saying people potentially have blood on your hands here (it should be noted people have been asking everyone to defederate from lemmy.ml for a long, long time, and there were many chances for everyone to do so, and if there's anyone here I feel uncomfortable around, it's Davel and the people he is now helping)? Ironically this person who died was someone the accusers didn't mind using to attack ShinigamiOokamiRyuu when it suited them (and still suits them as long as people aren't smart enough analyze things, which is why those who get dragged in use so many links that Ganondorf would be scared) when it made them look bad, with nobody wanting to acknowledge they forgave ShinigamiOokamiRyuu until they died from transphobia at the hands of the same accusers, who were censoring him for defending ShinigamiOokamiRyuu and siding with the transphobic boyfriend, which weighed on him because his mother recently died too. Some people totally do have blood on their hands, and these kind of impulses by the people can be manipulated to serve something undesirable.

These "exposés" come from a triad of new users (suspicious much? The second person mentions a previous alt somewhere but I forgot the name.) who have been known to engage in this smear campaign against this person, ShinigamiOokamiRyuu, all across the web, for things that happened a long time ago on websites far, far away. I actually wasn't interested in this conflict until I got dragged in and saw the death of a fellow trans person, and I certainly wouldn't want to be mixed in with these types of accusations just for talking to someone a certain way. The moral of the story seems that if you want innocent people to be accused of things, accuse them of being people who are already accused of things. Then it's alright, right? Right? People who actually ethically analyze what is going on will be bothered by this, and someone mentioned @[email protected] had told @[email protected] at one point that the best thing to do is to leave these matters up to the people in charge, but clearly this hasn't helped anyone except those willing to take advantage of that.

I've played some games for which I want to make comms, but I'd rather make them on a gaming-related instance like Lemmy.zip rather than my registered one. Is this possible or would I need to make and manage a second account on the target instance?

Or could someone there just make /c/FTL and /c/SliceandDice? Lol.

I would like to request to mod [email protected]

The current mod @[email protected] has not had activity for several months now and the last mod action was 11 months ago

Also their bio is: "I am planting the seeds of the future of this site and giving Reddit Migrants escape pods to go and recreate their communities unhindered by corporate or political influence."

So I'd think they expect this at some point lol

BPT was one of my fav subreddits and I'd like to institute proper rules and get a nice logo and banner for BPT Lemmy

Thanks!

The mod seems to have last posted over 1.5 years ago and I've tried DM:ing, but maybe someone on the administrator side can check last log-in. If the mod isn't active I'd like to take over the moderation of this subreddit, as a long time Chinese enthusiast. I've been trying to keep up the activity on there. I also have some smaller experience moderating and I'm currently a mod of [email protected] and [email protected]. I know the limitations of being a federated mod, so I'll create an alt on lemmy.world and add them later as moderator if I get access to the community.

Thanks for your assistance :)

Edit: Bonus requests for communities that have the same mod and that I could help to moderate: [email protected], [email protected]

The following accounts appear to be astro-turf puppets, used for synchronized voting. Created about 2 years ago with no, or very low activity.

Hi! I messed up my username at signup and its be bothering me a long time now. I would like my username to be SmokeyDope instead of the current Smokeydope.

I don't believe theres any way to change the username on my side. I can change how it displays ~~locally on Voyager~~ but thats not really the same thing.

Is there anything that can be done about this easily on the admin side? Its not a big deal and im worried it could require resetting my post and comment numbers.

I would like a clarification on whether posting on lemmy.world community from another instance constitutes constitutes 'accessing' or 'using' your website/service and therefore makes me subject to your TOS.

Thanks.

The only mod appears to have been banned and I have some experience moderating.

Currently there is only a single mod who doesn't show any activity for a long time now. I did message them months ago but no reply.

The new season has just begun so I thought now would be a good time to try myself.
