Valérie Plante will not be seeking re-election as Montreal's mayor, according to Radio-Canada sources.

Plante is expected to hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m. to announce the decision.

Plante has served two terms as mayor of Montreal. She was first elected in 2017 after defeating incumbent Denis Coderre. She was re-elected in 2021.

She had previously said she would seek another mandate.

Earlier this month, a Quebec Superior Court judge ruled in a class-action lawsuit that racial profiling is a systemic problem in the Montreal police force, and that the city is responsible for profiling committed by its police officers. Justice Dominique Poulin ordered the City of Montreal to pay $5,000 to people arrested without justification and racially profiled.

The force has also released two reports since 2019 showing that racialized people are disproportionately targeted by police during random street checks.

Erreur étrange. Je crois que j'ai réparé le lien du poste précédent?

Au cas où cela se reproduise, le lien est https://kolektiva.media/w/w4xrX5tgL3YAynFG13oW6b

Strange error. I think I fixed the link from the previous post?

In case it happens again, the link is https://kolektiva.media/w/w4xrX5tgL3YAynFG13oW6b

A step in the right direction. I've always found it very upsetting that before tip machines, the standard 15% tip was on the subtotal and now it's always calculated on the total. We are double screwed in that over 15% has been pushed lately and the ``15%" is not the 15% that we used to have.

I know this because I use SimpleLogin to provide each service with its own specialized email address. You can see in the picture the address starts with bixi@sl.***

It's also possible but unlikely that they sold user data.

Hello people from the Lemmyverse.

This September I will move out to Montreal for a Ph.D. Internship program that lasts until December. I have searched the costs of living but much of the content is outdated and not trusty enough for my taste.

How much should I expect to pay in Rent, Groceries, Transportation and in a Gym membership? Given that I will be there for work, I will not make tourism in anywhere fancy or expensive, I hope.

What I am most worried is the costs of rent. I am ok in sharing a place, not a room, with a bunch of people - needing only to be cheap.

My total budget is between 1400~1800 CAD per month.

If anyone can help me with that, I would be glad. Thanks :)
