Whether it's a project you're working on, plans you have this weekend, an event you're going to, etc. What's something that's got you excited?

And I mean in like, The 2011 Japan earthquake where our days literally got faster, COVID because ... Y'know. COVID. Etc.

What's a time in your life you experienced something like that, when was it and what ended up happening to you?

I can only think of a video game of this name that was released 10 years ago. But I found that the Wayback Machine archived a domain name, apotheon.org, that has nothing to do with the video game (the game's actual website is apotheongame.com). Why the domain name doesn't infringe on the Apotheon's video game trademark (assuming that the term was invented)?

I don't know how to exactly describe what I'm after so I'll explain my intent. I'd like to record (write up) my dreams from the night as a first thing in the morning, every day. I'd want it to be recorded with date stamp and easily searchable. Something like calendar and or diary/journal combined. I can't figure out what I should be looking for. Simple calendar might do, but I'd have to start new event every morning and fill all the unneeded cells...

In an effort to further curate my online experience and try to bring stuff I'm interested in directly to me without all the "noise" and effort that goes with scrolling random sites, I'm late to the party and finally trying out RSS.

I installed a reader, and so far have added some local news, local weather, alerts (e.g. FDA warnings), a few niche blogs, NASA's APOD and news feeds, a couple of comics, and a youtube channel (only got it to work once - it seems buggy for others), a podcast, and now I'm out of ideas.

Do y'all have any favorite feeds that you follow? Or any tips about where to look / types of feeds that might be interesting?

In 2022 my car (a 2010 Nissan Versa) kicked the bucket. The engine was broken and needed to be replaced. Rather than spending even MORE money on repairs (I had spent a few thousand or so on various other parts at this point), I decided to buy a newer car that would, presumably, require fewer repairs in the short term.

I bought a 2021 Honda HRV for ~$20,000 at 7.59% APR. I pay $414 a month and have $16k left on it. I bought this car under the worst possible circumstances:

  1. Used car prices were very high at this time
  2. Interest rates were high due to inflation
  3. I needed a car because my previous one had died so I didn't have the luxury of time

My hope, at the time, was that inflation would be tamed and interest rates would eventually be lowered, wherein I could refinance the loan. I no longer believe this is a possibility within the next 4 years or so. I was also hoping to find something small and cheap like a Honda fit, but I learned that they had stopped producing them. An HRV seemed like a sensible kind of car given the modest physical needs of how I used a car at the time

So, here's my question: Should I just sell my car for something older? Maybe like a 2015 or so? Or should I just stick with my current machine until it's paid off and try to refinance after 2028?

If I could go back in time, I would've sold the Versa in 2020 or so, before I had spent a bunch of money on repairs. Hindsight is 20/20 though

My job role is a Technical Lead. When researching some cloud technologies for adoption I came across the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's Landscape web page which lists all cloud technologies that come under their umbrella.

The sheer number and variety of them made me realise that perhaps players of games like Magic The Gathering or Dota would probably feel right at home when designing cloud applications since the job involves identifying apps that synergize with each other and min-maxing their costs.

So I was curious if there were more such examples where gaming skill could translate well to real life jobs?

As a Burmese, I’m always interested in hearing what foreigners have to say about our country since it’s relatively unknown…

Sadly I think I'm finally ready to put Sync out to pasture since it isn't maintained.

I've been using Windows since the days of 3.1, practically my entire life. So I'm really comfortable with how windows operates and how to do the things that I want to do.

I've dabbled around with Linux over the years, but am now considering trying to make a full switch to it.

What are some resources to "learn" Linux properly? Such as understanding the filesystem, basic security practices, essential tools or commands, etc?

I signed up for so many fediverse instances that are open for registration. Yes, so many. Maybe around 10 to 30 instances; I didn't count. But I'm sure there are many. Am I the only one who does this? 🤣 How many fediverse instances have you signed up for?

Someone just asked the opposite of this question here and I was wondering if there are cases were you're just not interested in something but you know the community is great nonetheless.

What is your line in the sand?

Edit: thank you all for your responses. I think it's important as an American we take your view points seriously. I think of a North Korean living inside of North Korea. They don't really know how bad it is because that is all hidden from them and they've never had anything else. As things get worse for Americans it's important to have your voices because we will become more and more isolated.

Even the guy who said, "lol." Some people need that sort of sobering reaction.

My parents were in an arranged marriage in China, they argue like every week. They are toxic af.

I wonder if people who freely choose their partners have less toxic families... 🤔

"So just do it" is a glaring one for me.

Simply because it is disregarding someone else's thought processes and how their mind works. Where simply 'just do it' is not as easily and readily accomplished. This kind of advice is always uttered when one person is going on about how they're tired of something and want to do something else. So this gets mentioned.

It could be a lot of reasons as to why, even if it is down to the obvious reasons. My valid reason a lot of the time is that I just don't have the energy or will to just magically get myself to do something.

My idea of Heaven would be, that it'd be a place where you get to spend as long as you want there before deciding to move on. Like whether you want to comeback as someone new or want to be an angel or want to do something on a cosmic or spiritual scale that contributes to the bigger picture. You're free from all suffering, regret, torment and guilt.

The idea of Hell is, is you get planted into two potential places aside from the commonly registered idea of hell that's depicted. One place is solitary confinement, for your spirit. No contact, nothing. Whatever you suffered with, still remains and nothing or nobody will bother with you.

Another place, is where you get to relive your better dreams and memories. But they're going to be fucked with until they're nightmares, robbing you of ever reliving the pleasantries that they once provided you. It'll be like partaking in a bad sitcom and you're its star. You're here in this idea of hell for quite the eternity, you don't get choice as to when you want to leave or what you do with your spirit.
