Don't be a dick. This includes any kind of trolling, baiting, etc. Bigotry may result in an instant permaban.

Rule 2 - No misleading or non-descriptive titles

No misleading or non-descriptive titles. Try to be brief but detailed.

Rule 3 - Keep post and comments relevant

Posts must be related to Plex and Plex-related products, apps. etc. Try to keep comments relevant to the parent comment and to the post.

Rule 4 - Keep discussions of "media aqcuistion" limited to means and methods only.

Discussions regarding media acquisition should be limited to the "how" not the "what", as this is not the place to discuss piracy of specific media. There are other communities for that, and we don't want to get this community defederated from instances where it's a forbidden topic. Posts/comments discussing specific acts of piracy ("How do I find X show?" or "Where can I download Y film?")will be removed. For further clarification see this post

Rule 5 - No asking / offering Plex shares.

As you may know, Lemmy.world has decided to ban any communities that deal with the subjects of piracy. Considering that this sub might be considered piracy-adjacent, I'd like to make it clear that discussing the subject directly is not allowed, nor is requesting/offering Plex shares in posts or comments.

This is a community for discussing Plex products, serivices, add-ons, etc. and getting adivce and support or those apps/services. It's not a place to discuss piracy. I understand this is a fine line to walk and requires a certain amount of compartmentalization in our discussions, but it's what keeps our discussions from becoming legally problematic (depending on your jurisdiction) for our instance hosts and keeps our community federated with and visible to as many users as possible!

Thanks, Everyone!

-- The Mod Team

EDIT: it should be noted that discussions that may involve piracy ARE PERMITTED (as it pertains to Plex and its add-ons) in our Matrix community chats (linked above and in the sidebar), as they’re not Lemmy-related and aren’t going to get this community in trouble here. However, all other rules still apply.

Hello, Community!

As you may have noticed, I've been trying to find the right community icon for the last few days as could get quite the right one. So I made one that combines the Plex logo with the Lemmy logo.

I think it looks prtty nice, and I hope you like it, too!

Cheers!

I'm starting to create managed user accounts for my two daughters on plex. They are 7 and 4, so movies I'm giving them access to consist mostly of Pixar/Disney type stuff. Well, when I log into their users, it has recently added movies and TV shows, which show appropriatle the things I've given access to from my server. But below those it has "Binge Worthy Shows" "Plex Picks" "Summer Lovin'" and a few others which are all hosted "(on plex)" It even is advertising "The Marksman" right now, which is a guy holding a shotgun on the cover.

Is there a way to turn off those (on plex) suggestions so it ONLY shows the movies that exist on my server? Ideally I could just turn off those suggestions on a user basis as well.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Before I even start let me say that I know the suggestion is to put 4k into it own library...

99% of my movies are 1080p and that is my preference for space and quality balance. However, there are a few choice movies that I'll want a 4k version of. I would rather my users get defaulted to the highest non-4k version but then have the option to select a different version if they were savy enough to do that.

Feels like it shouldn't be a terribly complicated feature. Have a "include x quality in default version selection". Or hell for my random case use if I could just manually reorder them I'd be happy.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here? I have a pretty beefy PC I use as a server and HTPC. 24 2.5ghz cores, 64gb ram, kind of a crappy video card, debian 11. I just migrated all my stuff over and stress tested it supporting 8 different transcribed streams simultaneously (mix of in/out of local). That worked great.

BUT, the video playback is choppy (as in frame skipping) and out of sync when I'm running the HTPC program. Oddly using the web client on the same machine avoids that issue.

Any thoughts? I'm wondering if it might be that it's an older TV it's plugged into and there's some issue there. Thing is, like I said, the webclient its worlds better. Webclient seems to have some issues but I'm pretty sure that's just due to the TV.

Any pointers are helpful! I'm OK at this stuff but very much learning.

Plex.tv outage (plex.statuspage.io)
submitted 2 years ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

There's apparently a Plex outage currently. And it's a bit frustrating as it's preventing our TV app from connecting. Just an endless spinner after choosing a user despite only using local media etc.

When I first learned how to put my media into Plex, I did it by using Handbrake, compressing the content down to .mp4, and doing my best to use “audio passthrough” for the highest quality audio tracks I could find. But nowadays a lot more discs are coming with TrueHD, which apparently isn’t supported by the .mp4 container.

I’m wondering what I should do for these audio tracks. I don’t really want to keep my media in .mkv format because of the challenge of getting subtitles to work and because the .mkv files are enormous. I’m assuming that hevc isn’t the answer, since I believe that still uses the .mp4 container. Any advice?
