Explanation: Britain was not the most impressive of Roman conquests. While Gaul was renowned for its artisans, and Spain its mineral riches, Britain had... tin. And rocks. And a lot of cold, dreary swamps. Amongst the recorded complaints about the Brittunculi ('Nasty little Britons') is the curious idea that they could hide out in the frigid swamps for days at a time, with only their heads above water, to avoid Roman harassment.
