Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

the covid pandemic never ended, people are doing a dare every day by going outside unmasked

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Its become endemic & can be mitigated with basic hygiene and vaccine programmes.

MASKING IS A BASIC HYGIENE PRACTICE! washing your hands while hotboxing stranger's lung cum in public won't do shit.

endemic according to who? eugenicists?

vaccines don't prevent long covid or infection. there is still no sterilizing vaccine on the market. going in public unmasked while vaccinated doesn't absolve you from the disabling or deadly consequences of you infecting vulnerable people

Virologists actually.

I hate wearing facemasks and I did so during the actual pandemic but they're simply not needed now.

you only think masks aren't needed anymore because your privilege prevents you from experiencing the full consequences of your violence.

the long covid community has been clear that you shouldn't go outside unmasked for years now. if you decide to continue ignoring us, that's on you. and no, linking science that doesn't consult disabled people doesn't absolve you from your dangerous views

I feel like this is such an overreaction. Violence?! I've got some permanent symptoms after COVID and mono, and I won't judge anyone for wearing a mask. I'd happily comply with masking requirements in places where vulnerable people often visit like hospitals or elderly homes. But violence?

Masks were quite annoying and honestly didn't seem too effective here. Not because a well applied mask doesn't help, I fully believe that it does, but the average person just didn't use them correctly and other measures like vaccination were way more effective. When the hospitals are filling up it absolutely makes sense to enforce these kind of rules, every little bit helps. But it's not 2021 anymore. The virus at this point is more like a spicy flu than the unknown hospital filler that it was in 2020-2022. Expecting people to mask everywhere is unreasonable imo and calling it violence or dangerous is definitely an overreaction.

violence.

See, hysterical bullshit like this is why nobody takes you wierdos seriously.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Please don't call mask wearers weirdos. Ever since I've had Covid, ANY virus does a number on me. My wife will have the sniffles for 3 days and I'll end up with a high fever and bronchitis for weeks. And I hadn't even had a cold for at least decade before I caught Covid.

This guy's a nutter, but I still get it. I'm beyond tired of this shit too.

I meant no offence, I wasn't mocking the mask. I was mocking the "boy who cried ~~wolf~~ vIoLeNcE.

?????? If literally touching grass is violence in your book then I don't know what to tell you.

On a final note, whilst we may speak of a time beyond the pandemic, we are still very much in the midst of one. We are not out of it yet. At the present time, the world continues to grapple with the Omicron variant

good job linking a source that disproves your own claim lol

My boss is a virologist and she says WEAR A FUCKING MASK.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Very interesting, I'd love to see a peer reviewed paper done by her on this subject! Would be quite the interesting read.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Lung cum? Really?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

People don't do basic hygiene. The amount of people who never wash their hands is sickening

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

No. Because it's airborne and vaccines are not effective enough because not enough people are vaccinated.

PS I fucking hate long covid.
