Not anything I have any expertise in, but searching by description it looks like a beefsteak fungus.

For sure not the kind of thing I'd just take a chance on without knowing, but I suppose that's true for all of them.

Yeah no for sure, if I were to try an eat it I would look at it in much greater detail. But it was so cute and I never saw one before, I didn't even think about it.
