U! S! A!.. U! S! A!… U! S! A!.. U! S! A!
This is a Texas problem.
It very much is. I do not trust the current federal government to do anything. The only reason I think the state government might do something is Camp Mystic has hosted a lot of privileged white Christian girls over its history.
There's no better way to kill your political career in Texas than by not giving a shit about privileged white kids (it used to be rape jokes, check out how our last Democrat governor won, but I don't think that counts anymore). There's a history of politician's kids and alumni kids being the first ones in line. It's over $4k for a 30 day stay which a lot of folks couldn't afford even if they could get in.
Let me be very clear. I hope every single one of these children is recovered safe and sound. If I were a religious man I'd pray for them. I wish no ill upon any child, no matter who their parents are. I think (and hope) this will mobilize our awful state government officials.
It's a harrowing tragedy.
Texas kids grow up to be Texans though, and while some of them might be alright, it’s not a good percent.
And rich kids generally grow up to be trust fund adults. That doesn't mean they don't deserve a chance.
I may be biased because I'm a drunk who is both from and currently lives in Texas. But I feel like I would say that no matter where the kids were from.
