Fediverse is Stand for Federated Universe,it's like the decentralized social media(mastodon,lemmy, pixelfed,etc) they are use activitypub protocol to connect each other so you can interact with mastodon(or other fediverse social media) user with your lemmy account,in fediverse you can create your own server(instance),While reddit, Twitter, Instagram is centralized social media Controlled by big tech/corporation.
Also, the fuck is the fediverse.
It's what we call the new (ish) nerd Internet.
We "federate", meaning we don't give a shit who owns stuff, so we use "activitypub" to let Lemmy users access posts from other services like PixelFed (new nerd Instagram) and Mastodon (new nerd Twitter) without any additional accounts.
You don't have to worry about it, it just works in the background making more content available to your current Lemmy account.

The other major tech news I've heard recently about keeping social media free and for the people, is that BlueSky has just implemented a link tracking system so they can track where users go from their site (they're doing so to sell the information to corporate clients).

Also a Reddit refugee, but moved over after the API debacle.
After that Reddit decided to ban my 10 year old account, I guess as a final fuck you, but I’m not missing much these days for 98% of what Reddit considers content now.
The other 2% is when I pop in for my super niche hobby subs because Lemmy is too small for those
