Theme justification: All of the software products were bought in the department store less than five minutes of foot from my home.
The Speick soap is really good. It's a vegan base that's easy to lather and doesn't froth a lot (which I find that commercial European soaps often do), and I enjoy the generic fresh scent of Speick products. In fact, I also used the matching deodorant today. This soap was the first shave soap that I really liked, and I used it exclusively for a while before I slipped and fell into the rabbit hole. Pitralon is a favourite of mine and it leaves the skin silky smooth like SW toners (used to 😭) do.
Funnily, the Speick Active soap used to be one of my first proper shaving soaps as well after using shaving creams almost exclusively for a time. My first was one of those Wilkinson Sword soaps in a blue container which was notoriously hard to lather. The Speick was a clear improvement, but the scent was - to me at least - something akin to toilet cleaner and those well-known "Klosteine" in my region of Germany. The cheaper red soap stick of Speick was way better IMHO, as it featured the signature herbal scent of Speick bar soaps and creams. Together with the green Palmolive soap stick, one of my favs before I got into artisan products. Sadly both sticks aren't readily available anymore in smaller drugstores like they used to be...

The palmolive one is even out of production :(
That's really unfortunate. Together with their sensitive shaving cream, it was the favourite of my grandfather. That scent, together with Tüff and Hattric aftershaves, was a real trip down memory lane for me.

I forgot to pack a soap for this work trip, but that's why I keep some samples in my Dopp kit. Guy Noir isn't my favorite, but I do enjoy a good CFG lather.

2 passes. Face lather. Average shave.
I purchased this tube of Cremo 3 years ago for the first Lather Games in which I participated. I only every use it for LG. The substance is slimy, and very slick. It works, but that is all I can say for it. The best method for application is to build a lather on the face with your hands. The shave was close, just not that enjoyable.
Aqua Velva is great, as always.
June 18th, 2025: Canned Shave Goop featuring a Canadian pharmacy's intercom music playlist
Daily Theme Justification: Barbasol is canned goop.
Daily Theme: Well well well... canned goop day. Goop maybe the catalyst why we have fallen into this ~~hobby~~ type of shaving. It is cheap, accessible, and gets the job done, sort of. You can certainly shave with this stuff, but a brush and soap will always be better. How about using a brush with goop? Nope. I did that today and it still sucked. While this Extra Moisturizing formula of Barbasol is better than Original, it still leaves room to be improved. The slickness is just not there and can prove a chore to add just the perfect amount of water to get it just right. Lack of slickness brings about unnecessary tugging and dragging, keeping the razor and blade from doing its job. I would consider using this on vacation, but there are just too many wet shaving travel options out there that are much better.

June 18th, 2025: Barbasol
An evening luxury shave now that I'm home and have access to my precious can of Barbasol. I thought I had the purple kind, but all I could find was a normal can.
Did it work? Sure. Was it good? I added water which does help this stuff, but it was lacking in pretty much every department.

Theme: This shave cream and aftershave are both sold in a pharmacy local to me. The shave cream is terrible , I’ll probably throw it away before the next LG. I can’t believe people shave with this shit every day.
Challenge: Absolutely no energy for this today. Work has been way too much this week.
$FOF - Old Spice into 4711 is a really nice progression. The carnation, lemon, and jasmine from the splash blend nicely with the citrus in 4711. My only gripe is that I wish the scent of 4711 lasted longer. I swear it's pretty much completely gone after 15-20 minutes.
My $SELFCARE today was just getting a shave in. I am so exhausted, but at least tomorrow is a half day then we're spending the weekend at a rental cabin with some high school friends. I'm very much looking forward to that.

After a shitty pharmacy shave cream shave for LG, I decided to try out this new Australian sheep tallow soap to finish the job.
Outback is scented with sandalwood, patchouli, bergamot, and cedarwood. I mostly get the cedarwood and sandalwood. It's fairly mild but develops nicely when lathered.
The soap performed excellently. Easy to lather, took as much water as I wanted to give it, and great slickness (primary and residual). I'm looking forward to more folks getting to try this out!

Daily Theme: According to Harvard Medicine, "the ability of odors to bring to mind past experiences has intriguing scientific and therapeutic implications". A Harvard neurobiology professor reports that our sense of smell is intricately intertwined with our cognitive, memory, and emotional cents. Okay, what does this have to do with the theme? The first time I ever smelt Convergence, I was immediately brought back to my childhood elementary library. Why? I have no clue. It brings to mind the charging boxes of the old clamshell MacBook laptops we used. Speaking for myself because I know not everybody is fortunate of this, but I had an incredible childhood. Playing outside for recess with my friends, had no responsibilities, very little expectations, and experienced freedom like not every child gets to. I was free to be myself, have fun, and be a kid. As we all know, that illusion wears off eventually and we learn the ways of the world. It is so strange how a random soap sample conjured up these old feelings of freedom and wonder that I used to experience on a daily basis. I used Top of the World because it reminds me of going to Colorado as a graduation gift/family vacation after high school. Seeing and hiking mountains for the first time was a true eye opener and the freedom I felt when I got to hike mountain sides and seeing the vast views is certainly inspiring.
Daily Challenge: What do mirrors do? They reflect light. No mirror day ≈ no light day? Well, the logic isn't there, but that's what I did. I took my shower and then turned off all my bathroom lights, and did my best to cover all the door gaps letting it any bit of sunlight. I dug through my smush dopp bag and smelled each container until I found it. Luckily, it a Maggard sample and the shape of their containers are distinguishable and only picked through 4 or 5. Then I had to feel for the brush I was gonna use. Then the splash, by smelling nearly every C-Bubs splash I have because I went through 5 or 6 of them. I sat down in my old man shower chair and did everything my feel and memory. Surely the lather was bad because it felt weird on my face and felt a lot of the blade and tugging with an injector. After a few passes, I rinsed off and took my initial unflattering SOTD picture and then the original. Then as I was putting my Brut on, I accidentally knocked it into my sink feeling for it, but thankfully it was plastic and I don't think I lost much. Lather Games is doing a number on me and I think I am losing the plot.
Notes: I do not have a shower mirror and the pics were taken after the shave.
