Brave Sir Robin ran away,
Bravely ran away, away.
When danger reared its ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly, he chickened out. Bravely taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin.

I'm sure, whatever insult name they give him will be badass and he should use it in his campaign.

I'm super conservative and don't live in NYC but am really enjoying this election result.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Serious question, if you are super conservative why are you enjoying it?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Super conservatives hate NYC, so he probably thinks destroying it is a good thing.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Projection maybe? NYC is already a corrupt shit hole. There's not much left to destroy. I've lived there and it sucks. You literally get black gunk in your nose from the poor air quality. You can never see the stars. Everyone there is high on copium thinking just because they ride a subway to work they are saving the world. In reality NY is a big pile of trash. Perhaps the most unnatural living conditions of any "city" I've ever visited. Furthermore a Muslim with no love for Israel won the primary. It's going to be wild to see how that goes. More Jews live in NYC than Tel Aviv.

Because Democrats are dealing with someone that doesn't fit their mold. He's a product of their policies and philosophy but doesn't walk the party line. Meanwhile mainstream Conservatives are making up reasons for why they are so upset that a super liberal city elected a super liberal which should be expected. The reality is they are dancing around the fact that he's not submissive to the Israel lobby and that makes them freak out. He's liberal sure but he's a liberal that's not going to be kissing a wall anytime soon.

Liberals are center-right. Anti-regulation, anti-guardrails, anti-equity, anti-accountability, etc. Like conservatives, they are defined by all the things they are against. Mamdani is thankfully not liberal, which is precisely why he has voters excited while liberals and conservatives are having meltdowns.

You're just playing word games. You know what I mean.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I really don’t. Words do have meanings. If you use the wrong words people are going to assume you are talking about the things you are actually saying because they have no way of knowing what’s in your head.

Just ask my wife if she knows what I mean when I ask if she knows where “that doohickey” is. And that’s a fair bit better than a stranger on the internet talking about a “screwdriver” when they really meant “band saw.”

Edit: Also, Lemmy users are almost always on the same page when it comes to the word “liberal.” Even tankies agree on that one.

Liberal is culturally interchangable the term "progressive". Intellectually the "progress" inevitably leads to socialism. This guy is someone who is unashamedly taking that next step. I suppose we agree that he's being intellectually and spiritually honest in doing so. Most of the time the socialism/communism talk is simply used to entice the masses and drum up votes. He seems earnest in that from what I know.
