Truth be told, this doesn't change much, but I'd still like to make it official.

As of about 17 days ago, I have stepped down as the head mod of 196 on both this platform and lemmy.world. I will be yielding that title to the much more qualified Qaz, who's been functionally in charge for quite a while now.

Despite what you may think, I make this choice really only for one reason: I don't have nearly enough spare time in my life to be consistently available enough to be head mod.

What does this change/what does this mean?

To be honest, pretty much nothing for all of you. I've barely been available for the past however many months it's been, and in that time the community has been run exclusively by Qaz and the rest of the team.
All that you'll see changed is that Qaz will at times be the one that makes an announcement, and Qaz is now the only person that can make moderatorial decisions (bans, ect) without checking with the rest of the team (a power reserved for head mod).
I'll still be around. I'm still a mod, I'll still do announcements at times, and the rules post will most likely stay as my account, but from now on Qaz, gets the final say, not me.

This is an initiative to ban conversion therapy in the EU, if you are an EU citizen please consider signing it.

This is a more serious post than normal, but I feel this is important to share.

Please incorporate the word rule in your post titles

Here are the things that get you banned

  • Saying anything remotely iffy with a lemmygrad, threads, or hexbear account.
  • Prejudice of any kind
  • Tankie behaviour
  • Nazi behaviour
  • Authoritarian behaviour
  • Genocide denial
  • Anything else that is clearly bad

Ban length varies, and is mostly based off of whether or not I think you will change your behavior. I have banned certain people for upwards of 2000 days.

Things that get your post/comment removed

  • AI generated content
  • Anything in the banlist
  • Posts that are so off topic that they don’t fit on 196 at all
  • Moldy memes (old memes, crusty memes, irrelevant memes. The type of things you’d see on your aunt’s Facebook page or Elon musk’s Twitter account with a laughing emoji as the caption) Except on moldy monday. On this day and only this day moldy memes are not only allowed, but encouraged. The crustier the better. The type of thing that’s been reposted at least 2,000 times with filters and bad crops and watermarks and hopefully minions. please caption with moldy rule
  • Corpoposting
  • IRL GORE IS NOT PERMITTED UNDER ANY CONDITION.

NSFW RULES

NSFW Content is now fully permitted BUT it must be tagged. Any NSFW content that has not been tagged and blurred will be removed. Content warnings should also be added to the title in brackets. Example: [penis] or: [explicit description of sex]. Non-sexualized breasts of any gender are not considered inappropriate and therefore do not need to be blurred/tagged. Yes, even female breasts.

If you have any issues, please reach us at [email protected] or our public matrix channel PLEASE do not DM me, as I am not consistently available and tend to step away from the mantle for weeks to months at a time.

Fuck you Hesgeth rule (en.wikipedia.org)

Government websites now no longer mention perhaps the single most selfless, incredible, and strategically significant coordinated effort by a community of First Nation military personnel in service to a country that did worse than nothing to deserve their loyalty - and yet they played, and succeeded in, a pivotal role that literally helped win the pacific campaign.

Any veterans on here: I really do hope you’re furious at this.
