17% would only be comparable to the second Congo war(, 1998-2003, 3-5M out of ~30M, mostly civilians from starvation or diseases), or the Korean war(, 1950-1953, 1.5-2M out of 9M, mostly from US bombings), otherwise, a.f.a.i.k., the only relatively recent recorded historical events with a higher percentage are genocides(, that have even reached an unbelievable 90% in two cases).

Dr James Smith, an emergency physician, describes the aid situation in Gaza, where the Israeli military is killing people every day as they seek aid from US-backed distribution sites.

Some excerpts:

A survivor of the Tuesday massacre at the GHF distribution point in Rafah told me that shortly after the appointed distribution time, Israeli soldiers were near the road to the site, “hunting people as if they were ducks”.

The aid seeker from southern Gaza told me he saw gangs of Palestinian thieves inside the point, apparently “working side by side with the GHF workers” to create a buffer between the pushing crowds and US staff.

The GHF workers, described as “seasoned crisis operators,” have troubling backgrounds. Phil Reilly, CEO of Safe Reach Solutions (SRS), which assists the GHF, was a senior vice president at a US company that committed a massacre in Iraq in 2007.

The foundation is also assisted by another company, publicly known as UG Solutions. During the January ceasefire, UG hired US mercenaries at daily rates starting at $1,100 to inspect vehicles at the Netzarim checkpoint.

A study published via the Harvard Dataverse reveals that Israel has “disappeared” at least 377,000 Palestinians since the start of its genocidal campaign against the Gaza Strip in 2023.

Half of this number is believed to be Palestinian children.

The report was written by Israeli professor Yaakov Garb, who used data-driven analysis and spatial mapping to show how the Israeli army’s siege of Gaza and indiscriminate attacks on civilians in the enclave have led to a serious drop in its population.

The 377,000 Palestinians who are unaccounted for due to Israel’s genocide are approximately 17 percent of the Gaza Strip’s entire population, which now stands at about 1.85 million. Prior to the war in Gaza, the strip’s population was estimated at 2.227 million.

While some are displaced or missing, a significant number are believed to have been killed by Israeli forces, according to the report.
