Every 5 to 7 years, a mechanical watch must be completely disassembled, cleaned, freshly lubricated and reassembled for servicing.

It's an exciting puzzle of many parts, tiny screws of various sizes, springs, gears, etc. Here we have the opportunity to watch a watchmaker in action.

This also works on lawn mowers, plastic trash cans and the like. Success probably depends on the kind of plastic used.

And you can use a heat gun instead of propane, which may take a little longer, but works just as well; at least it did for me.
