I have a job that has long hours and I don't get enough time to do a lot of stuff thereafter. I get back home around 9pm and am too tired to stay awake beyond 11.30 - 12 in the night

This gives me a window of 2.5 hours to have dinner, spend time with family and maybe engage in a hobby.

My problem is that I like to do a lot of things - i like working out, I like gardening, I like watercolors, I like gaming, I've recently starting loving making things with my hand like macrame etc, I like to read, and I used to dance. On top of that i really want to learn woodwork. However, it really disappoints me that I don't have time for all of the things that truly bring me peace and quiet.

How do I prioritise what to do? I read an article that said that it's ideal to have 2 to 3 hobbies but I hate the idea of having to choose and limit my personality

At the same time, I do earnestly want to get better at my hobbies and unlock new levels, potentially building into an alternative career option maybe? This would mean giving sufficient time and practice.

Can I really not have it all? Is there anyone else who faces the same dilemma and how did you choose or not choose? Is there a way to give time to everything?

TLDR:

How do I choose between all the competing interests i have when there is limited time in the day?

Buy yourself an AirTag or or smartag, and track the bag while waiting for your connecting flight. I was able to locate, and retrieve a misplaced ski bag prior to an international flight.

Instead of focusing on a ‘speech,’ think of it as answering a friend’s question in a casual conversation. It makes you sound more natural and helps with stage fright.

We often think we need a perfect plan before we do anything, but that’s not true. Once you start, a lot of problems just solve themselves. The more you do, the clearer things get.

Waiting for the perfect plan can just hold you back. Once you take the first step, you’ll learn and adjust as you go. The fear of failing can stop us from starting, but once you’re in motion, you realize that progress is way better than perfection. So next time you’re stuck, remember: you don’t need everything figured out, just start.

I don't remember where I learned this, but as someone who used to get hundreds of robo calls a week, I can attest to this working.

Robotic calls often wait for the sound of a voice before automatically marking a number as active, so that they don't mark another robotic number by accident. This is why if your voicemail message is your voice you sometimes get cut-off robotic voicemails in your inbox.

So if you have a huge influx of robo calls, answer the call and instead of talking, mute your phone microphone and just wait until the bot ends the call - usually only about 30 seconds to a minute max. This will lead to most of them auto marking your number as inactive, and you'll start to get less calls!

It's easier to quit something if it's diluted with unnecessary/poor quality artifacts, in this case, ads. For those of us who have been running adblock for years, just think back to the last time your adblock extension went down

edit: lots of comments about "just quitting" or "just deleting" when "just do x to improve your life" has never been that easy for humans to just do. Also, lots of people display plenty of similar psychological withdrawal symptoms to people who struggle with drug addiction. Sure, quit cold turkey *if you can* is great advice *for those who can*, but it's bad advice for those who can't. This is just advice to give people an option for weaning themselves off of something if that's what works.

Nothing in my post said it's a sure-fire successful method of quitting, just like people in the comments can't say that "just quitting" is going to be successful either. Do what works.

Putting a traditional normal sized bandaid on a tiny cut on your finger or toe is annoying. Even if you have some of the smaller bandaid, or the ones designed for knuckles or finger tips, they still don't tend to be that comfortable. They can restrict movement, block sensory input and get soggy when you wash your hands.

Plain pimple patches (the non medicated ones) are just hydrocolloid bandages. For small injuries like a paper cut or torn hangnail, they can be amazing. It being covered with a pimple patch can stop a lot of the irritation, keep out germs and promote faster healing. They are less noticeable and blend in better than a traditional bandaid.

I scraped the top of my little toe while swimming. it was small but suprisingly irritating. It rubbing against a sock or shoe was uncomfortable, but less uncomfortable than when I tried putting a regular bandaid (all i had available) on it. A pimple patch worked great for it.

I've had some kids in my life who have sensory issues and bandaids tend to be a no go. My young nephew picked at a hangnail which tore leaving a small but irritating wound, kept complaining about it and picking at it. I told him about my magic bandaids that are clear and little and don't go all the way around like normal bandaid. He agreed to try it, and I asked him about an hour later how it felt and he said he forgot he even had it on.

Since they are small, flexible, and non toxic, they tend to be less of a choking hazard than regular bandaids too. Not that I recommend eating them, but it's probably safer than a regular bandaid for kids who put everything in their mouths but I'm not a doctor and that's just my personal assumption as a parent who once had to call her child's pediatrician while crying because her 11 month old took off her shoe and sock and ate a bandaid in a literally less than 2 minute car ride to the other side of the neighborhood. She pooped it out the next day and I was told the only real hazard was she could have choked on it.

TL:DR - hydrocolloid bandages are great, and (non medicated) pimple patches are just small hydrocolloid bandages.

After much usage, the screws for your doors, especially for knobs and locks will start getting loose. You will feel the doors harder to open and close but is so gradual that is often dismissed.

Stale bread isn't dry—it's crystallized. Instead of reheating, spritz the crust lightly with water and microwave 8 seconds. The moisture disrupts starch crystal structures (per MIT food science research), restoring chewiness. For baguettes, wrap in damp paper towel + 10 sec microwave + 2 min rest. This works because:

  • Rehydration targets amylopectin recrystallization (retrogradation)
  • Steam penetration reactivates gluten networks
  • No added calories vs oil/butter methods

Bonus: Store bread in cotton pillowcase (not plastic) to slow staling by 3x through controlled humidity exchange.

If your mattress has sunk at one end, or something else has caused your head to be even a little bit lower than the rest of your body, you are very likely to wake up with a headache until you fix that.

Stop throwing away used coffee grounds! Here's the science:

  1. Spread cooled grounds on a plate (no filter needed)
  2. Place in fridge back corner - surface area matters
  3. Replace weekly The nitrogen compounds in grounds neutralize sulfur-based odors 58% better than baking soda (per Journal of Food Science study). Bonus: Compost them afterward for garden nitrogen boost. My fridge went from science experiment to fresh in 48 hours.

When you are away on vacation or business, you probably will want some of the perishable groceries when you get home. Order your groceries for curbside pickup so you can pick them up on the last leg of your trip home. This way you don't have to run back out to buy groceries after an often-exhausting flight or drive home.

Original Title: LPT: If you're looking for a summer beach rental (or anything else) through VRBO/Air BnB, always try to find if the property is also listed on a private real estate/rental agency website. You can often save 10% or more as the agency will tack on a fee for any VRBO/Air BnB listing

I've booked our family's summer beach rental for years and have consistently used this method to save a significant amount. Rental agencies know that Air BnB and VRBO are the biggest consumer outlet, so they want to list their properties there. But they also know those apps charge a fee, so when the agency lists a property they typically add a 10% or more premium on anyone who rents through the apps

But, you can use the apps to look for the rental you want as well as find if it's listed by the agency on its own website

Here's how I do it.

  1. Let's say you want a beach house in Destin, FL for 2 weeks for 8 people. You search through the listings and find several you like
  2. Select one of the photos from the listing. (These are all provided by whoever lists it on VRBO.) Download (or screenshot) and reverse image search and see if any rental agencies come up. (This one also had the name of the property on the photo, which you can also use to find the agency.)
  3. Fill out the desired dates and get the rental quote from the agency. Chances are it will be at least 10% less than what you'd get on VRBO/Air BnB

For example: I need to clean up my flat which has got messy and disgusting. But I am feeling like I might just play video games all afternoon instead. When I imagine cleaning, it just makes me feel sad and unmotivated and when I think about playing video games, I feel happy. Instead, I really concentrate on imagining how I will feel after the task is done. After several hours gaming I will probably feel the same as I do now except with added guilt for wasting my time and disgust at myself for still living in a hovel. But when I imagine how I will feel after I cleaned up, I will feel happier, have a sense of achievement, feel pride in my surroundings. I then imagine gaming in a clean flat and how much better that will be. This works for me, hopefully this will be helpful to someone else too.

Rolling saves space, reduces wrinkles, and keeps your suitcase organized. For shirts, lay flat, fold sleeves in, and roll tightly. For pants, fold lengthwise and roll. Roll delicate items within softer ones. This method lets you see everything at a glance.

Yesterday I was at Disney waiting for Fantasmic, and we had to sit on concrete for about an hour. After a while, everyone’s backs were aching from the lack of support. Out of desperation, we tried sitting back-to-back—and the pain disappeared almost instantly.

Turns out, when you sit like that, you’re basically giving each other free lumbar support. It helps you stay upright without straining your spine or core muscles. Your posture naturally improves, and your back muscles finally get to relax. There's even a bit of a passive massage effect from the subtle movements and pressure against each other's backs.

If you're ever stuck sitting on the ground at a concert, in a long line, or while camping, give it a shot. It's simple, effective, and surprisingly comfortable. Just don’t forget to thank your new human chair.

When disassembling furniture for moving or rearranging, especially anything with complex hardware (like IKEA furniture, shelving units, or bed frames), take photos of each step of the disassembly, focusing on the specific screws and hardware used. Then, as you remove each piece of hardware, tape it directly to the corresponding furniture component with painter's tape. This prevents lost screws, confusion during reassembly, and ensures you have a visual guide for putting it back together. Painter's tape is recommended as it's easy to remove and won't damage the furniture's finish.

If you have a mindless snacking impulse like I do, odds are you'll eat whatever happens to be next to you while gaming or watching TV. Grab a bag of baby carrots and keep your mouth busy.

Carrots are cheap, healthy, and extremely low in calories. You can eat them by the pound guilt free if you want to.
