Hi, I create videos to educate others on living more with nature instead of from nature. Anyway, I currently pay for Epidemic Sound. I only use the songs from a single band for all of my videos. So, Epidemic Sound is getting a lot of money for a dozen songs from the same band.

I'd rather pay the artists for their work than Epidemic Sound. But I don't know where to start. I'd like to find something like the songs by Wanderer's Trove to use for my videos. I don't mind paying as much as I do with ES. I'd just rather it go to the artist than a corporation. Any advice on how to find such songs without going for a subscription?

Thank you!

PS: I really hope this is the right community for this question. I don't know much about music or music production at all.

There seems to be a lot of AI audio tools; anyone try them for audio isolation? My usecase is separating a song from a 5.1 movie mix, there's a great remix of Hot Blooded I wanna preserve

How many unfinished tracks do you have knocking around on a hard drive somewhere? I was just looking through a big folder of 150 that I organized into one folder like 5 years ago. I don't know what the true total is. Anyone else find this super overwhelming haha? I'm maybe just gonna dump it on the public like Mac Demarco lol

I was recently listening to music while in a conference call with my headphones, and I noticed that they changed to a "hands-free mode" and the music that I was listening to degraded to something that sounded like elevator music. Is there a way to apply this to any song that I have a file for?

I'm looking for some help in recreating the main synth patch for "A Warm Place" by Nine Inch Nails (can be heard in the linked video) using a software synth.

I think one of the main components to the patch is some kind of organ voice but beyond that I'm a bit lost as to what I should try. I'm pretty new to creating synth patches, but I learn best by experimenting and trying to reproduce things I know I like. I'm not looking to recreate this sound perfectly, but if anyone here could offer some guidance on how to achieve a roughly similar sound, or even just a good place to start, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm mainly using ZynAddSubFX but don't mind trying out other software.

A conversation popped up on another platform about the role of AI in music production, generally as its used in the mastering process. Now I'm not sure how much AI that actually involves and see it more as a set of rules that will map your song or music to a contemporary 'good mix'... basically control the EQ, RMS peak and LUFS. Things like this are becoming more and more prominent on music histinf sites.

I do use AI in some processing as I use software like Steinberg's SpectraLayers to 'un-layer' and un-mix tonal qualities, and so on but I don't use it in mastering. I do that the old fashioned way.

Your thoughts..? Yay or nay..?

This is proving to be a fascinating combination. Next step will be to bounce the Morphagene output back into the PT Mini for further resampling. Rinse and repeat until I get white noise. 😁

I’m struggling to pan the chorus of my song. It only has drums, bass, one slightly distorted guitar and a lead vocal.

The drums have a nice default panning spread from L-R in the DAW I’m using (Logic). But the convention I’m reading online recommends putting bass and vocal in the centre.

My question is, what do I do with the guitar, which is just playing a power chord at the beginning of each bar.

I like songs that fill the stereo spectrum but due to the composition, this one seems narrow by comparison.

I’ve read about stereo expanders but I’m not sure when to sure them. I was also thinking that I could somehow split the guitar into two tracks by frequency and pan those differently. Not sure how to go about that yet and then not sure if I would need to do the same for vocals in that case.

Any suggestions on how to make the mix a bit more exciting without changing the composition ?

Bitwig and Presonus just released an open source exchange format between DAW. It would even transfer automation data which seemed to be until now a pain point. I think it's a good thing to be able to collaborate with other musicians easily.

So what do you guys think?

Okay, so this isn't a production software question, but I don't know where else to ask. I am looking for a replacement for Thimeo SteroTool. I LOVE this VST processor, but at €385 with the declipper, delossifier, and dynamic EQ options, it's a real serious dent in my budget.

Is there anything remotely close in the FOSS space at a more reasonable price point?

Arturia added another classic emulation to their product list, Acid V, a 303 clone.

Any seasoned Arturia users, do you think this will get added to the next Analog Lab bundle? I wonder how often they rev that.

My OS and software are on a 2280 nvme 1TB drive. I'm thinking of installing a 2nd m.2 2242 drive in the wwan slot (it does work on my laptop) and putting my drum samples on that.

My question is, would this increase performance?

Excited to announce my first #VST plugin : emulation of a Neve console strip.

Format #VST3 (WIN), #AU (MAC-intel), Free to use (CC/BY/ND)

A smooth progressive saturation with built-in oversampling, coupled with a finely tuned filter section which response carefully matches original console character.

Perfect on drum kits, basslines, or to push some smooth saturated 12k Air on vocals.
