Does anyone think they’ll actually get £20m? There’s got to be so few people who have that kind of money and want to live here and also love that house enough. But then who doesn’t want a dedicated popcorn room?

I’ve lived in Newcastle for about 10 years now and following a break up with my partner I realise how much my social life is lacking.

I’m 32 into most sports and do a bit of tabletop gaming. Aside from that I struggle to meet people - although admittley haven’t really invested too much time in looking at options for meeting people.

Any others in the same boat?

Is there ANYTHING that can be done about these Scottish Power salesmen?

They don't take no for an answer and try to block you from walking to force a conversation.

A couple of days ago, my car died going up Westgate road. Luckily, Moh from French Auto Services was a champ and helped me get it up to his garage. I was blocking 10 cars either side, and felt terrible! He swapped the battery out for a new one for £70, and all was fine again. Just wanted to shout out to him for being super kind.

Hi everyone,

We’ve just launched Beyond the Bet – a new community project based in Newcastle upon Tyne that supports people affected by gambling. Whether it's someone looking to cut back, stop entirely, or just find better ways to spend their time and money, we’re here to offer something different.

We organise local meetups, events, and activity-based alternatives during key times like match days – when gambling is most tempting. Our aim is simple: to make weekends feel good again without the need for a bet.

We’re currently looking for:

New members in and around Newcastle upon Tyne who want support or a social alternative to betting

Activity-based businesses interested in partnering with us for monthly funded events

Donations or sponsorship to help fund experiences and keep everything free to access in our first year

If you or someone you know would benefit from this, or if you’re a business that shares our values, we’d love to hear from you.

You can follow us on Instagram: @beyondthebetuk Or drop us a message here. We’re open, approachable, and just getting started.

Thanks for reading, The BTB Team

Back in the early 2000s, when Centre for Life first built the motion ride, they launched it with a video called "Life is a Rollercoaster" it was about a man at a football match, he gets a call that his wife has gone into labour and you end up following him on a mad dash to the hospital through Newcastle

I messaged Centre for Life who stated the video was never released online, but wondered if anyone has a recording of the video or knows who created it. I'd love to see it again!

Thank you

This morning:

Dear Moderators,

I am writing to bring your urgent attention to a post in your subreddit titled “The horridness of Wave Consulting and Ben Azarya” ( https://www.reddit.com/r/NewcastleUponTyne/comments/1fg1zse/the_horridness_of_wave_consulting_and_ben_azarya/).

This post contains false, defamatory, and malicious claims targeting a legally registered company and its director. The content violates Reddit’s own rules on harassment, libel, and targeted abuse. It does not present verifiable evidence and is clearly designed to incite reputational damage.

I respectfully but firmly demand that you remove this post immediately. If no action is taken within the next 24 hours, I will be forced to initiate the following steps:

Submit formal reports via Reddit’s Trust & Safety team.

File DMCA and defamation complaints with Reddit Legal.

Organize a mass reporting campaign with over 1,000 reports to flag this content.

Take legal steps to request user information under UK defamation laws for further action.

Escalate the matter to Reddit admins for moderator inaction on harmful content.

This is not an idle threat. I am absolutely prepared to go to any lengths necessary to ensure this defamatory post is removed and accountability is enforced. I expect prompt action to prevent further harm.

Sincerely,

And, for shits and giggles, my reply (thanks to /u/Eldavo69):

For our response, see Pressdram v. Arkell.

Interestingly, they now threaten to Organize a mass reporting campaign with over 1,000 reports to flag this content. Bring it, bitch, it'll just get to the front page instead. Also, using this as a tactic in a legal campaign? Hmmm. Sounds like a fake solicitor to me. I might just stop redacting the name...

Hey all – I’m 38, just moved to Newcastle after living in London half of my life. Big gamer, proud dad, and generally just looking to meet some like-minded people up here.

Would be great to find some other chaps who are into gaming – whether it's console, PC, retro, whatever. I'm down to hang out, grab a beer and talk total bullsh*t about games, life, and everything in between.

If you're in a similar boat (or just think this sounds fun), drop a comment or DM me. Always better to game (and drink) with mates 😄

Cheers!

Some of you might remember a post regarding Ben Azarya, CEO of a direct sales company that allegedly uses misleading hiring practices to generate revenue whilst avoiding payroll costs.

Here is the post in question: The Horridness of Wave Consulting and Ben Azarya

For some time after that post was made, we are assuming that the individual concerned was attempting to mass report the post in order to get it removed. They were, of course, unsuccessful. Today, however, we received a rather entertaining modmail that I thought I would take the liberty of posting here:

Dear Moderators,

I am reaching out to formally request the removal of the following post from your subreddit, as it contains highly defamatory, misleading, and harmful allegations targeting named individuals and a registered company:

🔗 Post Title: The horridness of Wave Consulting and Ben Azarya 🔗 Link: Reddit Post

This post contains:

Serious accusations including unethical sales tactics, harassment, and abuse — none of which have been substantiated.

Direct attacks on named individuals including the Managing Director and recruitment staff.

Use of inflammatory and harmful language describing the company as a “scam” and “pyramid scheme.”

Personal anecdotes presented as fact with potential to severely damage reputations and cause distress.

This post appears to violate Reddit’s Content Policy, particularly regarding:

Harassment and targeted abuse

Spreading false or misleading information

Doxxing and naming individuals for public ridicule

We respectfully request that you review this content for removal. This is not a legitimate review or critique — it is a targeted character attack.

We are willing to cooperate further or provide clarification as needed.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Naturally, I thought it only polite to send a reply:

Messrs. , Azarya;

Your application of the term "defamation" is improper and unlawful. Reddit, like any other social media, is a platform heavily dedicated to opinion. As far as we are able to examine, this post and all comments related thereto are of organic means, and are therefore appropriately representative of the opinion of the owners of said accounts. In contrast to a dedicated, funded, and professional campaign, the post and its related comments consist of the personal experiences of all persons concerned, and this is substantiated by a significant number of similar opinions posted on other websites, including forums, interpersonal social media, and news sources.

The use of the phraseology "personal anecdotes represented as fact" has no basis in UK law, since determination of opinion vs fact is largely context-relevant and generally easily proven the former. In no court would such a complaint be upheld, and in no court would a reddit post be considered factual, unless explicitly stated as such.

Finally, no "doxxing" has taken place. There is no expectation of privacy of personage on the internet, and so the use of an individual's name cannot be considered confidential information unless used in a form of targeted and unprovoked attack. Since this post does not meet that criteria, and is instead a public criticism of an employer, no expectation of privacy can be upheld.

No further correspondence will be entered into, and copies of this mail will be sent to other parties involved as well as posted publicly on the subreddit proper.

Best;

/u/NorthernScrub - subreddit moderator

Hopefully I'm not too far off the mark with that interpretation, I'm no legal expert. Anyway, it's pointless them sending anything to us - my single-person business has far greater reach than they and I imagine Andy's does too. We're both quite opposed to the idea that we can be intimidated, so this is... kinda fucking hilarious tbh.

Anyway, that's all. Hope you have a chuckle. If they send anything back I'll pop an update up.

The two have kindly offered their services in taking over moderation duties from myself. Not a whole lot should change on the subreddit, if anything things will likely carry on as they are. I'll keep around for a week or two, but providing nothing changes, I'll quietly disappear. Thanks to both of you for doing the do.

Anyone remember that one storm we had in June 2012? The one where the Tyne bridge was struck?

I’d love to get everyone’s memories for that? All I remember, since I was a kid, was the sky going green and the whole city flooding severely.
