Introduction

This community is designed as a gathering place for the entire No Man's Sky community on Lemmy. It's a new community, created June 2023. We're open to suggestions and volunteers!

Rules

1) Keep it civil.

Disagreements and dissenting opinions are fine, but there's no reason to get hostile. Explain your position civilly and accept differences of opinion.

This also extends to a ban on posts promoting hostile groups or griefing / trolling actions, such as "hunting" players who don't want to be involved in PVP or building bases designed to cover / destroy another player's base.

Generic, negative shitposting is also not allowed. (This game SUCKS! Sean lied! etc)

2) Keep it relevant.

Posts should relate to No Man's Sky in some way.

Off-topic comments & conversations are fine, but actual posts & links shouldn't be off-topic.

3) Limit self-promotional content.

Any monetized content sources, defined as any direct link or de facto redirect to any source which generates revenue through sales, subscriptions, or advertisement views, may not be shared in this community more frequently than once every 7 days.

This includes monetized YouTube channels - if you want to help the community with videos more frequently, you can always upload them directly to our subreddit.

Non-monetized self promotion may be removed at moderator discretion if it becomes excessive

4) No AI-Generated Content

Posts which primarily feature content generated by AI will be removed.

Posts which feature auxiliary AI content - for example, using an AI background remover for graphic design, or posts which utilize AI image-resolution enhancement tools - are permitted.

5) NMS Community Network Rules

These rules apply across a network of No Man's Sky communities, including c/nmsgalactichub. Severe rule violations may result in a ban not only from this community, but other communities in the network.

That's right, negative one sentinel units in play.

Yes, this did have the predictable result of not allowing any additional Sentinels to spawn in and also locked me in the Sentinel "combat" state forever until I left the planet. Whereupon I was immediately jumped by a Sentinel capital ship which I summarily blew up.

I'm with the Vy'keen on this one, these guys need to go to hell already.

6

Or, day 34: The Gek have still not realized I am not one of them...

7

Here we go again...

For no particular reason I'm trying to work on maxing my Vy'keen milestones and as we all know, one of them requires destroying a lot of sentinel walkers.

Before anyone gets it twisted, this is not a whine about the supposed "difficulty" of fighting the Sentinels. Destroying them is actually trivial. I am a planetary catastrophe on legs; my riced out neutron cannon can destroy most types other than the laser dogs and the walkers with a single shot. Rather, here's what happens:

I can fight through the usual levels one, two, three, and four waves as usual with the typical escalation of units thrown at you. Wave 4 spawns one of the mini-walkers, which I blow up.

What usually happens (or used to happen) is that wave five would spawn a couple of laser dogs/quads, a bunch of various little flyers, and after a short delay one of the big bipedal walkers. You fight this guy, he blows up, and your wanted meter turns blue and the Sentinels are out of your face for 20 minutes or whatever. We all know how it is, right?

Well, now the big walker never spawns. I get one laser dog and one mini-walker instead, and no big walker. But my wanted level enters some kind of bugged state where I am always "Detected!" no matter how far I go and no more Sentinels spawn after I destroy the initial few.

I'm just stuck listening to the stupid wannabe breakcore combat music forever. No Sentinels are visible, there are no red dots indicating their locations on the HUD, but I am being "seen" by someone erroneously no matter how far I go on the planet's surface. The big walker is absolutely not stuck in the ground anywhere or hiding behind a mountain -- Believe me, I've checked. All I can do is cheese with my cloaking module until the wanted level eventually decays down to zero, and then start the whole process over.

This has happened to me literally every time I've tried to escalate a Sentinel fight to maximum since the latest update, on multiple planets of all types and biomes, in at least two different galaxies. High or low Sentinel security level, it doesn't matter.

It's worth noting that if I go to a Sentinel Pillar there is still usually a big walker there, as normal.

What gives? Is anyone else encountering this, or is it just fuck me in particular?

I'm just starting out on the expedition and trying to visit all the starting planet's moons. This is being made more difficult by the number of bases in this system. I can't point my ship at one and see if it's temperate or if it's radioactive, or if it's frozen or so on. This is because I'm only given information about one base on each planet.

Is there a way to turn this off?

9

So, I'm doing the expedition and trying to not get irritated about it as is usual for me.

Unfortunately, the game isn't playing along with that. I'm on one of the moons of the starting gas giant. The paradise world. I'm trying to find all the animals so I can retrieve some things I actually like rather than the stating gear.

Most of the animals are aquatic so I jump into the water... I haven't tried finding fish in quite a few updates but it appears some of them spawned in a water-cave under the lake I found. I dig down and... the moment I enter any hole in the ground while underwater I'm returned to the surface.

This lake isn't deep so I'm fighting buoyancy the entire time but being snapped back to the surface doesn't seem like an intended behavior.

Because your faction standing in expeditions doesn't carry over to your main save, kill a bunch of frigates and freighters while in the expedition. Then transfer the tech modules back to your main save. Yoho

11

Assuming you end Expedition 17 with the Wraith as your ship, you can go to the Expedition terminal and copy the ship (in exchange for nanites) as per usual. The Wraith has a bunch of nice living ship modules on it.

Two options: store the modules and then salvage the ship; or store the ship in your hanger (so it isn't in your list of active ships). Then claim it again. Lather rinse repeat until you have enough upgrade modules for whatever you need.

You can also claim it from the Quicksilver terminal once.

I jumped around the rendezvous points without hitting the space station and forgot to take the pictures when playing earlier today. If I set my active quest to it, it says go to %planet% so I’m assuming this is a bug but I have no quest route in the galaxy map. I only visited the space station for the first rendezvous if that’s any help

Update: still no luck but looks like the rendezvous milestones autocompleted as I haven’t gotten to phase 5 rendezvous

This might be considered an exploit or glitch. I'm not the one to discover it. Probably some of you know this already.

You can transfer ALL of your Expedition items to your main save.

Step one -- complete the Expedition. But don't accept the End Expedition dialog when it pops up (ESC on PC, O on PlayStation, etc. -- basically, dismiss the dialog without hitting "Accept").

(A) Go to the Expedition terminal and fill up all the inventory there with stuff you want to transfer back to your main save. DO NOT CLICK END EXPEDITION.

(B) Get into and out of your starship to create a save, then using the game menu choose "Return to Primary Save"

(C) In your main save, collect all the Expedition items from the Expedition terminal. Then click "Resume Expedition" from the Expedition terminal.

(D) Go to step (A) and repeat until everything is transferred.

This is great if you want to collect things like technology modules from destroying frigates/freighters or something in your expedition save (to send back to your main save) without having to deal with the faction hits. Or whatever else you wish to farm from an expedition.

A reddit user posted screenshots of a gas giant that were beautifully adorned with the colors of the trans flag.

This attracted bigots with their agenda to disrupt the community discussion and the mods shut it down by locking the post.

So the poster created a second one with more photos as a symbolic gesture that the message was simply about pretty planets that they felt represented them-

It too, was locked.

I made a post there proclaiming that I am leaving until I see the mods replaced with those that will not give in to bigotry, and I linked to this community with the hope that people can find a new home here.

Sooooo… welcome new friends!

Hello!

No Man’s Sky is a game that we all genuinely truly love. Last year we released Worlds Part I and I remember thinking at the time that this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to show people what we’ve been working on! There’s new solar systems, new planets with more variety, new terrain types, even new Gas Giants, and of course new adventures. Our next update is called Worlds Part II. Full patch notes are available here.

Worlds Part II allows us to push the boundaries of our engine with new technology.

Across the universe we’re adding billions of new solar systems and trillions of new planets, and introducing new biomes and terrains without changing what people already love about the game. It’s now so far beyond what we ever thought was possible when we started out.

Continued

Edit: added ps5 patch note screenshot

The Cursed Expedition was one of my favourite expeditions, so of course I'm redoing it.

The constant drain of the Anomaly Suppressor and the harassment of the Boundary Horrors lends an incessant pressure. That first dash to the ship with an underpowered Boltgun and no Elixirs at hand is reminiscent of a Permadeath start.

I think the slightly reduced targets of the Redux version make it a little less grindy.

And of course, the trash talk…

Artemis is gone? Run it in! She's just in another level of the simulation, you bastards!

That's uncalled for! You leave them out of this!

Some sweet vengeance

I assume it's Worlds Part 2 since Worlds Part 1 was released at the beginning of last year.

A bit odd perhaps, at least Ii haven't run into this.

Planets in uncharted systems have no structures. However if you use a portal to travel to a planet in an uncharted system, a Portal will generate. I spent a good deal of time trying to portal to this world, and some other worlds in the same system. I've double-checked the glyphs several times. In all cases I get the address error, approximating. I'll end up in a different system around the same distance from the core every time.

I swear I've done this to generate a portal on uncharted worlds before. Did I not have enough coffee today? Has this been "patched"? As it is I portalled to a bunch of other systems anyways, so got a functional portal base for this galaxy. On to the next.

Twelve galaxies down, 244 more to go. I just realized that it would make more sense if I'd not repair everything every single time...

Hi all. I will try to reach all 256 galaxies. Last time I tried this I got bored at #10... But I sure do hope that this attempt will be different! I'm looking forward to sharing my progress here on this sub. By the way, I had no idea that you need emeril drive to jump to galaxy core :-)
