I'm really frustrated and need to vent.
Most people paying attention know that Ford has been undermining our healthcare system while trying to privatize it as much as possible. A new trend that is starting to happen is that family Dr.'s are forcing patients to either pay a monthly subscription or be charged exorbitant fees for services not covered under OHIP.
This month, I got an email from my family Dr.'s office. The office is using a new program with a tiered subscription planned. I will now be charged $25 per prescription refill requests, or pay $40 a month for unlimited refill requests on the tiered plan. My son and I both have health issues and have quite a few prescriptions. Now the way to avoid this would be to book appointments to get all your refills on a regular basis. The issue is that is something that is now extremely hard. I just called my Dr.'s office and I cannot get an appointment until June. I literally can't book an appointment for my son with his Dr. (we have different doctors at the same clinic). They say April is fully booked and the May schedule isn't set yet. The office had been relying on nurse practictioners. They don't see to have any at the moment, and thus are understaffed. I don't really blame the office, but I do blame Ford's Government for getting us to this point.
But guess what? The program they are using is Healtheon, which is an American company!!! Why are we allowing American companies to profit off of our universal healthcare system at all, never mind during a trade war!
