I've just had an update to the OneUI 8 beta on my S25 Ultra; I had actually downgraded back to One UI 7 due to the DEX changes but saw this pop up...

It appears that its now possible to put apps that require full screen mode into a proper full screen mode by clicking and holding the "restore down" toggle on the bar that appears at the top of DEX apps and you can trigger "immersive" mode; I've been able to get YouTube, Remote Desktop and even Reddit to work in this mode and it largely resolves my immediate issues with the shortcomings of the "New" DEX mode.

I'll try and get some video (struggling a little as my capture app is being flaky!) but progress at least!!

I am a big fan of Dex but not only did they remove the transparent mode for your window settings that was a useful feature, now they have removed the auto-hide taskbar which you can no longer watch YouTube videos in fullscreen now but now your home screen is stuck with it. Is this a bug or do they think it's a small unnoticeable feature?

Hi everyone,

I originally wanted to post this on an Apple or general Samsung subreddit, but I feared fanboy replies would miss the point completely. I’m looking for real, practical advice, not platform loyalty.

I’ve been deep in the Apple ecosystem for a long time. My first iPhone was in 2008 (I’m Italian), and my first MacBook Pro goes back to 2005. In my family, we’ve always had Macs around. Right now, I use:

A MacBook Air (for work, running an ERP system, Microsoft Outlook, the Office suite, and Safari) Two iPhones (personal and business) An iPad Pro with Apple Pencil (mainly for PDF markup, notes, and media) An apple watch series 8 for fitness tracking and music when walking Airpods second series ( am a sucker for this design) All these devices are part of my daily workflow. My phone is for calls, emails on the go, and WhatsApp (where I live, blue/green bubbles aren’t a thing... it’s all WhatsApp). My iPad is more for occasional tasks, writing notes and consumption of media, my laptop is for office work, spreadsheets, keynotes, zoom, erp...

Then, about a week ago, I saw a video of someone using Samsung DeX with a Galaxy S25 (I think), and it really made me pause. It hit me...I might be able to replace my entire setup with just that one phone and DeX.

Imagine going from carrying a heavy backpack every day to just having a phone, a small pouch with a keyboard, mouse, and maybe a dock. That idea is very tempting.

A few more things about my current Apple use: When I go for walks, I take my Apple Watch and AirPods...they sync with selected albums loaded from my iPhone. So for about an hour, I have my music and my fitness tracker, with no need to bring the phone. Often I find myself typing emails or notes on my laptop while lying in bed or on the couch. I wonder...could a Galaxy Z Fold (like the upcoming Fold 7) opened up in tablet mode become a comfortable way to type in those situations? Maybe I could get used to it? So, here I am asking the real DeX users out there:

Are any of you using DeX daily for serious office work? What’s your setup? Can a Fold + DeX actually replace a laptop and tablet for productivity? What are the real limitations or pain points I might face? I would truly appreciate any advice, experiences, or suggestions you might share. Thank you for reading – and apologies for any mistakes, English is not my first language.

Cheers!

So a while back I found out Android phones can open other Androids files if connected by a USB hub. Well, taking that a step further you can actually access the Android/data folder from those too! (This file is usually hidden and you can't open it unless it's through a PC, turns out you just need some external device and not a PC specifically).

Felt it'd be useful info to have out there especially those that use DeX alot.

I’m a student and one of the main reasons I bought the Galaxy Tab (instead of a laptop or iPad) was because Classic DeX gave me a real desktop-like experience — perfect for studying, writing research papers, and managing my workflow.

Classic DeX allowed me to:

  • Open multiple windows and multitask smoothly.
  • Use my keyboard and mouse with full productivity.
  • Enjoy a familiar PC-style interface without needing a laptop.
  • Switch easily between study and leisure thanks to Android’s flexibility.

After testing One UI 8, I was very disappointed to find Classic DeX removed from the tablet’s internal screen. The new DeX mode:

  • Feels limited and unstable.
  • Doesn’t support my workflow like Classic DeX did.
  • Took away the feature that made this device unique for me.

We need to get our voices to samsung to either bring back Classic DeX, or give users the option to choose between Classic and New horrible deX modes

Until then, I will not update my tablet, and I know many others feel the same. This change negatively affects those of us who rely on DeX for real productivity.

You don't need Dex for all of this, but it certainly helps make it more fun!

First up up Winlator Frost and Windows gaming, you can the the FPS on a stock s24+.

  • All games are from GOG, no cracks, nothing illegal

  • All games are running 100% local - NO streaming

Witcher 3

Just Cause 2

Deus Ex HR

Cyberpunk 2077

Then there's a Debian Bookworm install:

  • Full Debian desktop environment with:

  • HW accelerated video playback (YouTube)

  • VS Code (Python and Node are both fully functional. You can do CICD with Github)

  • Inkscape for giggles, I use PhotoPea in place of Adobe Photoshop
