Get as personal as you'd like. Totally want to hear stories on how SU made a difference in your life. And what moment did you see yourself in the show? Like what made you go "This is me."

(Trigger Warning: vague mentions of childhood abuse)

HEAR ME OUT

My personal theory boils down to if you had an abusive childhood or not.

I had an abusive childhood, I love Future!Steven. Nearly every single episode was like a window into my feelings about my childhood and I loved it because it explained, expressed and validated so much for me. I ended up crying happy tears at so many scenes. Everyone I know who also had abusive, or even just a neglected/shitty childhoods also loved Future!Steven.

Meanwhile on the opposite side of that scale:

Everyone I know who had wonderful childhoods did not like Future!Steven, they told me they hated what Steven became. They hated that he was such a happy loving kid who went on magical adventures and Future turned him into a despondent, traumatised, anxious and TIRED young adult whose magical adventures were actually the sauce of severe trauma.

I think it’s because so many people related to Steven and saw themselves in him. For many many many people such as myself Steven is almost a direct reflection of ourself.

The ones who were traumatised feel even more seen and validated by Steven realising his childhood was traumatising and his family unintentionally parentified him while the ones who grew up loved feel things ranging from guilty, upset, angry, even disgusted because unlike people who experienced trauma at a very young age Future!Steven no longer reflects them as a perfect mirror.

in the final episode of future, just watch white's facial expressions and movements, when she tries to connect with Steven she gets knocked down and looks terrifies before saying "That isn't Steven anymore" later in the same episode during the hug she just nervously walks up and barely gets too close to him, not to mention after the episode where Steven did nearly kill her. I honestly think white is terrified of Steven, and showing Steven literally void the abilities of who is essentially a deity for as far as we know is freaking terrifying.

Like if he opened a door for himself and saw someone coming or he just saw someone he thought might need help with a door how long would he wait?
