Is it the best for quality prob not if you were to scrutinise a side by side but even on a 75" 4k oled I have yet to see any artifacts or degregration and it's currently saved me having to buy another hard-drive for the moment. The settings are a solid broad stroke super easy to setup qsv. The only failures I have are where it's already in the format. Well worth adding to your unraid esp if you have older backups.

Still a very relevant Distro to all UNRAIDers, whether they know it or not :-)

Version 6.12.3 2023-07-14

Blogpost - https://unraid.net/blog/6-12-3

Unraid Docs - https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/release-notes/6.12.3/

Networking

This release has fixes for networking, particularly as it relates to IPv6. A side effect is that this should resolve an issue where the webGUI will not load in certain instances.

Note: If you have code in your 'go' script to disable IPv6, remove that and disable it via the 'Settings/Network Settings' page instead. Manually disabling IPv6 will cause conflicts.

Docker

This release resolves an issue where Docker does not properly stop when the array Stops, which can result in an unclean shutdown.

If Docker containers have issues starting after a while, and you are running Plex, go to your Plex Docker container settings, switch to advanced view, and add this to the Extra Params: --no-healthcheck

Bug fixes and improvements

  • rc.docker:
    • revised docker daemon running check
  • rc.docker: change route metric of main interface as needed to avoid conflict with shim interface with shim interface
  • rc.library:
    • code optimization for ipv6 max/min
    • support ipv4 mapped addresses
  • rc.nginx: explicit ipv4/ipv6 selection on lo interface
  • shfs: correct share size calculation when ZFS is one of the volumes
  • webgui:
    • VM settings page: fixed typo
    • Share Edit page: make minimum free space settings always available
    • Wireguard: fix typo in Ipv6 mask
    • Routing table: fix display of metric value when zero

Linux kernel

  • version 6.1.38
  • Added support to monitor and also limit power on Intel Core (2nd Gen+) CPU models:
    • CONFIG_POWERCAP: Generic powercap sysfs driver
    • CONFIG_INTEL_RAPL: Intel RAPL Support via MSR Interface
    • CONFIG_IDLE_INJECT: Idle injection framework

Base Distro

firefox: version 115.0.r20230710165010 (AppImage)

So I thought I would highlight the next major enhancement to qBittorrent - I2P support!, what the heck is I2P i hear you cry, well i can't put it better than the Wikipedia entry for I2P:-

The Invisible Internet Project (I2P) is an anonymous network layer (implemented as a mix network) that allows for censorship-resistant, peer-to-peer communication. Anonymous connections are achieved by encrypting the user's traffic (by using end-to-end encryption), and sending it through a volunteer-run network of roughly 55,000 computers distributed around the world. Given the high number of possible paths the traffic can transit, a third party watching a full connection is unlikely. The software that implements this layer is called an "I2P router", and a computer running I2P is called an "I2P node". I2P is free and open sourced, and is published under multiple licenses.[5]

So what does all this mean for you as an end user?, it means the potential end of using VPN's in order to stay anonymous when torrenting, I2P will completely obfuscate your IP address meaning no more complex VPN setup or costs that are associated with signing up to a VPN provider.

I2P integration with qBittorrent is planned for the next major release, version 4.6.x, keep your eyes open for this landing!.

Note:- libtorrent 1.x does NOT support I2P, so if you are using the tagged docker image libtorrentv1 and want to use I2P then for the time being you will be SOL.

Has anyone taken the plunge and converted their cache drive to ZFS? What are the benefits for a lay person (apart from snapshots)?

If you aren't already using the mover tuning plug-in, now is a good time to have a look at it.

The latest update allows per-share settings override for detailed control over how your caches are used.

I use this plug-in to keep files in cache based on their age, so for example in a media server, you can have the last 14 days of TV shows kept in cache, while still running the mover regularly.

It can also do a full move if the disk is above a certain threshold value, so if your cache is getting full, it can dump all files to the array as per normal.

So you always keep the most important recent files on the cache, with a greatly reduced risk of running into a full cache issue and the problems that causes.

Now, with the latest update, you can tune these settings PER SHARE, rather than being across the whole system.

Anybody planning on switching their drives from XFS to ZFS?, I am mulling the idea over whilst the bugs get ironed out on 6.12, I think I MIGHT go for it on my cache drives first, see how that goes, if it seems solid then I would go for the rolling conversion technique on my array drives, anybody else got any plans for ZFS use?.

I’m running the binhex Mullvad container but now they Mullvad is removing port forwarding I have 2 questions.

  • Is there a setting that can fix this issue in the container?

  • If not, I assume I would need to do a new container using a different VPN?
