Hi guys, I wondered if any you ever consider shutting down your servers during hot periods, such as we have right now in the UK?.

Personally i leave mine running but as temp creeps up I do sometimes consider a temporary shutdown until temps reduce to protect the drives from excessive heat, just wondered what everyone else does.

A nice solid cheap build, I have two M1015's in my build actually and they have been going strong for a number of years, I love them!. I am not so sure on the choice of 10 x 3TB drives TBH, not what I would of done, I wonder what he paid for them.

This is a great video with some really nice real world scenarios when using zfs with unRAID.

I have now switched over to voyager for Android, like the side swipe actions

I think the answer is as Ed says, horses for courses, it all depends on what you want to get out of a nas and the amount of time and effort you are willing to spend.

A good question, that really depends on how you use ZFS, if you are creating single disk zpools then the advantages over XFS are limited to compression and snapshots (i think), if you are using ZFS in a more traditional sense of multiple drives then things get more interesting and you can use the whole range of features included in ZFS - disclaimer i have extremely limited knowledge of ZFS so i am being vague on purpose, check out Spaceinvader One's videos on the subject for much better understanding.

yep, a lot has gone into release 6.12, i am going to give it 1 month since the last release then go for it, i might then give it a further 6 months and then switch filesystem for my cache drive to zfs.

i get what you are saying, but a picture does tell a thousand words, you just cant beat visual walkthrough vs a long list of instructions, the only downside with video walkthroughs is they can date quite quickly, whereas a written guide is much easier to keep up to date.

Spaceinvader does have a great gift of explaining detailed technical problems in a easy to understand and precise manner, big kudos to him.

Is that IOS or Android?

FUSE has always been slow, no big surprise here, and TBH I'm not overly concerned with lightning fast writes, I just want consistent read speeds, that's more important to me.

Ahh right I see, so you are using mover as a means of reducing power usage, that's interesting, power is super expensive where i live so that is a factor for me, i have spin down set reasonably tightly, but not insane, i think its 1 hour idle at the mo.
