…and set up their own instance.

Mastodon and Lemmy instances seem to me to be the sort of thing the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation should be doing.

Hopefully the CBC's funding increases are brought in soon!

CBC/Radio-Canada’s funding by the federal government is well below the average funding of G7 countries, which is $62.20 per capita. Currently, the government grants approximately $1.38 billion to CBC/Radio-Canada, which represents approximately $33.66 per capita, thereby placing Canada in sixth place in the Group of Seven (G7) in terms of public funding per capita for its national public broadcaster. The per capita funding that CBC/Radio-Canada receives is therefore equal to approximately half of the G7 average. The Minister intends to bring Canada more into line with its G7 counterparts.

wait, so only $29 of my tax goes to CBC?

Not sure where $29 came from. In any case, we need a strong public broadcaster to protect Canadian cultural heritage and sovereignty. And I'm glad there is movement on this.

hmm, yea, i butchered that.

Cant believe that only $33.66 of my tax goes to it, and i shoudl start donating $29 to 'bring up' my tax donation to the G7 average.

Hmm, what about donating to Fair Vote Canada? Democracy Watch is also a good organization.

yea, this year i likely financially stable enough I can make some donations to worthy organizations. Having a baby & 18m of maternity leave took all our money!

On the other hand, I get that they don't want to act as a moderator when they don't have to.

A Mastodon server to host journalists accounts and official feeds would be nice though, which people could follow from their home instances.
