Didn't watch, but I assume it's because some people like to own their music.

That wasn’t really the thesis statement of the piece.

The piece primarily talked about out the listening experience. It’s a focused experience without notifications, listening is more intentional and curated (not controlled by algos), it’s nostalgic, and modding iPods it pretty fun.

That and dedicated devices with better quality vs a swiss army knife that isn't really great a single thing, just good at a lot of things.
