Maybe it depends on which sub you're in and the type of people they attract, but in many popular subs I have been in, the whole blackout thing has been a dud and has sent the absolute wrong message to people, blaming the mods powertripping.
Once again, it affects US and the whole thing worked with US because we're the only ones that care about this shit. The ones that don't, the ones that use the regular app, who are not aware of the 3rd party apps or even hated the 3rd party apps, who are the majority of reddit users, did not care at all. And we have this bias that we can't absolutely shake off, that the majority of reddit users agree with us. No, that was not the case at all. We end up sounding delusional as hell.
What we're doing right now, using a different website to discuss topics and such, is a much more effective way to protest things than just blacking out a bunch of subs.
