Lincoln also advocated for apartheid. Let's take the whole body of his ideas with a grain of salt in the context of his times and understand many more useful ideas have evolved since then.
He was one of the people who was not only against slavery, but was also in favor of giving freed slaves rights, citizenship, and economic opportunity. He was widely seen as a radically progressive Republican at the time for all of this.
That being said, some things are simply timeless because they're true, and this is one of them.
