My problem with the Capaldi era is that it basically was the Clara Show...although one of my favorite eps actually came out of that era, being the special with River Song.

That's how I felt about Clara back then. It felt like she was hamfisted into being the reason the Doctor is who he is. It doesn't feel half as bad as I remember now though.

You could also argue the same for Amy Pond. Maybe the difference is it felt more natural opposed to literally being a part of the Doctor's timeline.
