Usually apps either checks for update automatically or have a button on the "about" dialog. Obsidian "About" dialog does even have a link to the obsidian webpage.

How one expected to find out that a new version is released?

Related to version updating for community plugins: I've found that Plugin Update Tracker By Steven Swartz is useful
