Took a chance on a $260 Mosin at auction with a troubling amount of what turned out to be just surface rust. Steel wool took the rust off to reveal this 100 year old beauty. Marked SA on the receiver.

Please don't! That's a beautiful stock. Just sand it down and polish it.
I think he's joking, if someone wanted to do that to a mosin, they'd find a less rare one to do it to.

I didn't get that vibe from him but you just reminded me to tell OP not to use steel wool on guns. Brass or copper brushes remove rust without damaging steel.
