First of all, resorting to insults, great show of intelligence.
Second of all, if you need me to explain to you the difference between ignorance and stupidity, or the average bigot and people with actual mental disability then you have some catching up to do before we can discuss this topic.
Stupidity begets ignorance and hostility. And yeah, I'm being a little hostile.
But as far as I've seen, effectively preventing insults from moderately to very intelligent people are things like social, professional and academic consequences, or just being in good company. Even then, friends can insult eschother. And otherwise, they're not exactly verbally puritan.
But in certain progressive spaces, you've become as stuck up and sensitive as old nobility. You people are awful to talk to. You make yourselves very hard to tolerate.
Dunno, based on my 30+ years of experience, I'd say I'm pretty tolerable. Ever considered you might be the problem?

When you can't be mean, you can't really speak your mind about people you hate. Like political figures, and certain moderators.
Right now it seems I'm not being shut up. I guess it's up to you whether or not to shut me up.
Just know that a lot of the people that get shut out of "decent" places are people you meet outside, and they've been getting weird the last few years. I'm gonna argue it's causative. What happened 10 years ago in the east? Was it Russia invading due to oil reserve discoveries?
I know Ukrainians. I know eastern Ukrainians who protested against Yanukovych and were shot at so he could keep his gold loves of bread. I also know Russian/Ukrainians whose families emigrated to Ukraine after the USSR ethnically cleansed Crimea of the Tartars. Ukraine is a place with a complex past and lots of internal issues. But those issues are INTERNAL. They should have the right to work them out themselves. Russia invaded for oil and natural gas resources, plus the black sea ports. The rest is propaganda.
They've been at war for ten years. That's like saying the US systematically killed German speakers for 4 years in the 1940's. And they haven't banned all opposition parties, just the Russian ones.
