Showering is one of those tasks that for me feels impossible to complete. And somehow I always get stuck on thinking I must complete tasks in The Proper Way or it's cheating. Well, I tried showering sitting down and it made such a difference! So much more bearable, especially when I'm having a particularly low-energy day. And the end result is the same: I'm clean.

Thinking that it's cheating sounds like you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself. Well done for finding a way to get past that. You should try thinking more about the outcome than the activity. Say you didn't have the energy to use soap, you're still going to be cleaner than before you went in. Making each activity as frictionless as possible (maybe though 'cheating') helps build it into a habit and once the task has been habitualised you'll be doing it without thinking.

Well done again for problem solving your issue.

Good point about "cheating"! I imagine there are some places where standing up (rather than tub-bath, or sitting down for a thorough scrub) is considered the cheat-form!

Showering while sitting down is really nice, but have you tried a lovely, relaxing bath? It's even better. If you have a tub and don't hate the very idea of baths, I highly recommend it.

I had to get in the habit of having a chair for showering sometimes when my leg was first healing and I was adjusting to the strain of standing for long periods of time again. It helped me a lot to be able to take my time and be thorough with the process without risking my leg giving out on me.

I'd never even thought if showering sitting down, that's a next level strategy! Currently stuck with just a bath. The sooner I get in the hot water the less shit I feel about the day ahead.
