It’s very weird to me that it’s republicans who are more proud than democrats. Republicans are the ones who say the country is a crime-filled shithole full of woke gay black trans people who care about humans rights, and they think those are bad things. So what are they proud of?

I’m proud that we have all those types of people and more, and that we’ve made some progress in getting them a semblance of equality, but I’m ashamed that we’re still not quite there yet and even the pittances we’ve won have taken so freaking long and have been met with such resistance from the right.

They’re proud of the “real” America. Those others in this country don’t count and need to be eliminated.

I’m proud to be an american, where they’re sleeping in the streets.

And I won’t forget the man who died, while “resisting” the police.

And I’ll proudly stand up for barbecue, if it’s what’s on sale today.

Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. But screw the libs and gays!

It's also really strange that conservatives love gutting the government... Which is a pretty big part of what makes a country. They they love that flag.

I think if you asked them with open mind you’d find a very different conclusion

Common sense at record highs

Still too low.

67% combined share of Americans who are extremely or very proud [to be American]

That's WAY too fucking high

Not only am I embarrassed by the US and it's inhabitants, my family has been planning an international move for some time. Once we are no longer caring for the elders in the family, we will make our exit stage right.

It will probably be too late by then

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Doubtful that it will be for us, we're fairly well insulated from the goings on around us, income/Bureaucracy wise.

You just went full empire, man. Never go full empire.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Naw, it ain't going full empire.

You can get a certain pride in going full empire. You can pretend that you deserve the power as you are the peak of civilization bearing the white man's burden to run the world. It is really hard to have that pride in Trump unless you're really fucking dumb.

I haven't seen Tropic Thunder and the way this comment is written makes me completely unsure if it's paraphrasing a line from the movie

No, GIR. That's bad. Giving an extra fuck about the place where you live helps combat things going to shit through the tragedy of the commons. The fact that toxic people have made am awful version of it doesn't change c the fact that it's a positive thing. Don't let the cunts take it away. Please take pride in where you live, and I will take pride in where I live, and we can show off our homes to each other.

Please take pride in where you live, and I will take pride in where I live, and we can show off our homes to each other.

They are not taking pride in their local environment or even their fellow citizens. Pride in America is pride for the system that bears that name, the system of oppression, genocide, war, and death so that its masters can live in luxury. And that system is fucking disgusting.

Giving an extra fuck about the place where you live helps combat things going to shit through the tragedy of the commons.

In fact, pride for America requires putting America's system first before the environment and its citizens it claims to represent. It is antithetical to "giving an extra fuck about" anything other than the evil machine that America represents.

Yes, that's what I mean by toxic people turning it bad.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But it was never ever good to begin with. America has always been the label of a colonial project.

Weighing only the bad you'll find no where on Earth is good.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Historically it should be obvious that "America" is much more evil than good for the vast majority of people who have come in contact with it. This is no less true in modern times.

no where on Earth is good.

If by "no where on Earth is good" you mean "no country on Earth is good" then literally yes, that's like my thesis as a human lol. If the only thing you take away from my entire existence is "all states are bad" then I can die happy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Fair enough, I personally try to be more optimistic and focus on the positives while acknowledging the problems. But as long as you aren't deluded into thinking one nation holds a monopoly on negative aspects I can respect that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

You shouldn't be proud of a location just because some ditzy cunt squeezed you out on a specific bit of dirt.

Be proud of what you and your neighbors do to improve the place. And if that isn't enough to be proud of, do better.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

But we just had a whole month dedicated to pride. Come on guys we can do this!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The fact that there are any "proud Americans" shows what a joke the subject of history must be in US high schools.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I was a junior in 2001. Had an elective history class that a lot of honors students, myself included, were in. This particular class was called "Holocaust", and it was basically German history 1930-1945.

That teacher was very easy to take off track. One day, late October, we got to talking about the PATRIOT act. I remember being totally in awe of how many people, my peers, were in favor of it, and didn't see it as a bad idea.

Nothing will fundamentally change. ~ Joseph R. Biden

Well we had one thing change. Our pride.
