Wikipedia about this source
Trump has routinely intentionally mispronounced her first name – it’s correctly pronounced “comma-la”
I wish people would stop saying this.
It only sounds like comma-la for speakers who have the father-bother merger. (That is, speakers for whom father and bother rhyme.)
And while most Americans do have that merger, New Yorkers (like Trump) and Bostonians do not have that merger.
Interesting. How do they pronounce father and bother? They are the same for me (a westerner).
The vowel in father is pronounced closer to the front of the mouth and the vowel in bother is pronounced closer to the back of the mouth.
Kamala has the father vowel, while comma has the bother vowel.
Why is this downvoted? Who is downvoting linguistic facts?
I guess linguistics is now political in this country.
This country is so fucked.
