One year in jail for raping a 5 year old.
All the stories like this just solidify my decision to leave the Catholic church and become an atheist... it's unbelievable how this is basically a slap on the wrist and the justice system is OK with it.

There's no way he hasn't done this and worse in the past
He plead guilty to get off of OTHER charges related to the long term sexual abuse of a child and will get 5 years probation. Fucking ridiculous.
Oh yea this is just the tip of the iceberg I'm sure.
Another reason for me to feel justified for not letting my parents take my son to church functions. Nothing happened to me as a kid but goddamn I couldn't fathom putting my son anywhere near that stuff.
All that repression isn't healthy
After the many thousands of cases should we not ban contact with priests and children? They clearly can’t be trusted.
Just one?
Like, in the realms of priest sexual abuse, this is pretty mild.
It's terrifying that that is something we can say with a straight face.
