I wish that there were a reboot or remake of Total Overdose. It was a fun GTA-like game

I'd much prefer a sequel, but a reboot to L.A. Noire would be just as welcome. Not only would the graphics be top-notch considering what we've seen lately with the Mafia remake set around the same time period, but I feel like Rockstar would be able to learn from some of the more glaring mistakes and improve heavily.

Notably, the whole interrogation mechanic has some glaring flaws with what the interrogation options are called, and in how it chooses to tell you whether you got an answer right.

Command and conquer series. They're the best RTS games honestly.

Hands down, Jak and Daxter. Those were my favorite games growing up.
I also wish that Banjo Kazooie/Tooie would get a remaster.

A Hat in Time and Yooka Kaylee scratch that Banjo itch pretty well.

Knights of the Old Republic 2

Supposedly they are still working on a reboot of the first one. But that one is fine. They were never allowed to finish the second one.

Jade Empire. I'd love a new one but I'd take a remake at this point. Such an excellent, peak-Bioware game.

Dragon Age Origins. It’s getting long in the tooth and harder and harder to play on PC, plus you can’t play it on any of the last two PS consoles.

Simpsons hit and run please!

[–] drcrimzon@lemmy.cmstactical.net 4 points 2 years ago

Another for LA Noire, favorite cop game of mine, but also Syndicate holds a special place that should be explored more.

Legacy of Kain / Soul Reaver series for sure. I would pay absurd amounts of money to play through these again.

Chrono trigger and give it the ff7 treatment

[–] LostInSpaaaace@beehaw.org 8 points 2 years ago

You can't mess with perfection. Chrono Trigger is still amazing.

[–] LilBagOfBunnies@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

I would love to see a new Skies of Arcadia game on modern hardware!

Black & White! I'm honestly surprised it's just been left to rot. I don't think it's even gotten the GOG treatment.

I'm actually against the idea of a reboot / remake for most of the games listed here. They're already good games, a modern update would only serve render them obsolete in the minds of many and reduce the lasting cultural impact of the original titles. Re releases of the original versions, sure, but full on reboots / remakes, absolutely not.

I believe that, like film, game remakes should be reserved for titles that had potential they never lived up to, or where a developer has a fresh interpretation of a title that doesn't supplant the original, such as the case with Final Fantasy VII.
To that end, some games I personally would like to see remade or rebooted are Whiplash, Jurassic Park Trespasser, Sonic 06, Enter The Matrix, and Nightmare Creatures.

Ape Escape, MediEvil 2, Tombi

Basically games from my childhood that I wouldn't mind getting the Spyro Reignited Trilogy treatment

[–] Skray@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Oh man Ape Escape. I remember needing to buy a controller with joysticks specifically for it since the default controllers didn't have them.
It's crazy how gaming has evolved.

A lot of classic PS1 era games would be great to see remastered, the control schemes can be odd on some, and for many the graphics did not age as gracefully as the more stylized games.

[–] sim_@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago

My god Ape Escape was so hard! I saw a speed run a while back (GDQ maybe?) and it was so cathartic to see someone master the game in a way child me never could.

[–] WallCactus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Freelancer. Space games are in demand right now. That's begging for a remaster, remake, or sequel.

[–] mihnt@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

I've been seeding a torrent of that for quite awhile because I think at this point it's abandonware.

Command and Conquer and it's counterpart Red Alert. But with the love of RA2.

[–] GrumpyRobot@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Anything from Legacy of Kain, but preferably Soul Reaver

There was a dos 4x game by logic factory called Ascendency. It was similar to Stellaris but more turn based and has a much more manageable interface. I really enjoyed the game mechanics and game races, which were all very unique. Id love to see it rebooted, but at least I can still play the original on dosbox.

Zelda 2. Or a spiritual successor might be even better. The hybrid top-down/side-scrolling perspectives is key to the feel of the game imo.

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago

Call me a cynic but I'd be afraid any rebooted favorite game of mine would be little more than a nostalgia cash grab in the current gaming economy and probably sour my memory of the original.

[–] Jim-B396@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Parasite Eve

[–] smokinjoe@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

General Chaos

Twisted Metal

NBA Jam: Tournament Edition

[–] SgtStiglitz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I would love a new Twisted Metal game. Hell - it doesn’t even need a reboot, just build 1-4 from the ground up like the did the Spyro or Crash Bandicoot trilogy.

[–] HipHoboHarold@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Legend of Dragoon. One of my favorite turn based RPGs.

[–] hatecoach@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Rick Dangerous - It's time

[–] Fuyuhikodate@diggit.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

Funny i had the Same thought when i was reading the title

[–] DesTeufelsAvocado@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

It is hardly known, but I miss the action rpg "Lost Kingdom" by FromSoftware for the GameCube. You summoned creatures and monsters in battle with cards and it had a gloomy, eerie atmosphere, I remember some really scary level. I found this at a flea market when I was fifteen, so it was such a special find, great artwork and music. It had one sequel, but after that the game disappeared. :<

[–] Varyag@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago

The Burnout, WipeOut and Ridge Racer series. All of those are perhaps the best arcade racers ever released on consoles, and they're all dead now. I've been playing the PS1 and PS2 games, and they all still hold up tremendously today.

[–] SevenSwell@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago

Still holding out for Ogre Battle 64, there's really nothing like it.

[–] roving6478@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

I was a bit disappointed when Final Fantasy VII got a remake, which was mostly great gameplay with dated graphics, when Final Fantasy VIII got a remaster, which had quite poor gameplay but was graphically superior.

There's a ton of PS1 titles that would benefit from a remake. Silent Bomber, G-Police, and Disruptor come to mind.

[–] Pogogunner@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It would be nice to see anything for beyond good & evil, the game had such a fun vibe

[–] HipHoboHarold@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

I hate to say it, but they have been talking about the sequel for years. At this point even if it comes out, it's probably gonna be so far removed from the original I don't know if I even want it at this point.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.fmhy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I wish we could have a legend of legaia remake. I would love to see some of the body horror levels in modern graphics and if the remake really captured the post Apocalypse feel of the original it would be a masterpiece

[–] NiceGlutes9140@tech.lgbt 1 points 2 years ago

That game was amazing, I loved the progression of the Seru on your body as it progresses. Game felt like it was ahead of its time.

[–] Pips@lemmy.film 1 points 2 years ago

Medal of Honor. One of my first experiences with a single player FPS and it was just solid and immersive.

[–] PixelOfLife@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Robot Arena 2 (2003). I had so much fun with that game as a kid. A reboot with modern physics and graphics would be awesome.

[–] Earnest@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

After finishing RDR2, i really want to play RDR1 but its not available on pc :'c

[–] CosmicApe@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's not a super well known game, but I'd kill for a remake of Creatures 2. Even a more stable version of the original would make me happy

[–] recatek@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Love the Creatures games, with Creatures 2 being my personal favorite of the 3-4 main series ones. FWIW I had more luck with the Steam version than the GOG version as far as getting it running decently on Windows 10.

[–] cyd@vlemmy.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I would like remakes of some 90s PC games whose various design quirks make them hard to get into these days.

Two RPGs from that era stand out to me: Dark Sun: Shattered Lands and Ultima VII. Both have world-building and immersive sim elements that still feel very modern, but have dated graphics and bad interfaces (and, for Ultima VII, a truly terrible battle system).

[–] axus@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Ultima 7 was the first game I could build a house from logs in the pre-existing world, before Ultima Online and Minecraft. I had lots of fun exploring their hand-crafted world. Did my best not to steal from people :)
