MODERATORS

A strong majority of Americans across the political spectrum sympathize more with Ukraine than Russia in the ongoing war: 62% of respondents express more sympathy with Ukraine than Russia, including 58% of Republicans and 76% of Democrats. At the same time, just 2% of respondents said they sympathized more with Russia in the conflict, including 4% of Republicans and 1% of Democrats. Republicans (20%) were more likely than Democrats (7%) to say they sympathized with neither side, while equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats (5%) said they sympathized with both sides equally.

The percentage of respondents who said they want the United States to stay the course in supporting Ukraine grew from our October 2023 poll, reaching the highest level in our tracking since the spring of 2023. In our latest survey, 48% of all respondents said that the United States should support Ukraine as long as the conflict lasts, including 37% of Republicans and 63% of Democrats. All these numbers are new highs in our four polls since March-April 2023.

Yeah, I'm one of them.

Ukraine needs the backing, it's smart policy for the present and future, and we could forge an alliance with them that could last as long as the ones we have in Europe already.

Yeah, war sucks, and it would be nice if Russia would fuck off. Yeah, it's expensive and we have trouble of our own. But some things are about the long view, and in that regard, there's just no benefit to not backing them.

Problem is it’s a gigantic money pit and Russia is aligned strategically to win the long game.

We can keep throwing money at Ukraine but in the end Russia is going to reclaim Ukraine. Just a matter of time.

Is the answer to stop supporting Ukraine? I don’t know probably not but we are going to spend a shit ton of money and in the end Russia is still going to win.

Quite frankly it’s a geopolitical mess which Ukraine asked for by becoming independent. This was always going to be their fate. Why get dragged into their mess? We aren’t going to change the ultimate outcome here.

Strong disagree on all points.

Blaming Ukraine for getting invaded is insane and the idea that we can’t outspend and outlast Russia is pretty suspect too.

Honestly do you know anything about the history behind Russia and Ukraine? Based on your response I’d guess you don’t know the very first thing. You should start with that.

It me. We bled Moscow dry with defense spending once before, we can do it again

Supporting freedom loving Ukrainians in their fight against the fascist dictatorship of putin (how does he keep avoiding all those leaky windows?) is absolutely the right thing to do.

And not just because it's the right thing to do, but it further shows russia as the paper tiger it is, telling the whole world exactly what one can expect from their populist, fascist, far-right, "strong-man" dictators in the end. They seek only the furtherance of their own power/wealth, and will decimate your country to get it. They will enjoy 5-star meals on their yacht as they tell their corrupt generals to send wave after wave of innocent men to their deaths.

Slava Ukraini!
