Historical Artifacts

Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!

Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

Generally speaking, ruins should go to !historyruins@lemmy.world

Illustrations of the past should go to !historyillustrations@lemmy.world

Photos of the past should go to !HistoryPorn@lemmy.world

The animals that used to eat out of it probably thought “what the hell kind of trough is this.”

yeah that's stupid catholicism in a nut shell (or in a crib) the WHOLE POINT of the christmas story is the earthly, poor origins and the manger is a symbol for the birth of something heavenly in a BARN with the common people and the animals...

I thought the point was that being born in a barn (or cave or whatever) and placed in a manger was to show that the Jews rejected him, and then the wise men come from the east shows that he would be worshipped by gentiles…

it's not the jews rejecting. it's about the king's rule and laws that make it necessary for the birth to be "on the road"
