That's how it's designed for now.

Lemmy's only default language is "Undetermined". When a new user signs up at a Lemmy instance, their only language is "Undtermined". By default, anything that is tagged as "English" is not shown to them.

So, our instance is set to "Undetermined" so that people can see the content without having to fiddle with their language settings first.

This is being fixed, and English is going to be enabled by default in the next version of Lemmy. At that point, we'll consider adding English as an option.
