(..) Russia has made similar demands of the U.S. over the last two decades – demands that would limit the West’s ability to build a stronger military presence in Europe and potentially allow Putin to expand his influence in the continent.

"There’s no sign that the Russians are willing to make any concessions,” said Angela Stent, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution who was the top U.S. intelligence analyst for Russia and Eurasia. “The demands haven’t changed at all. I think they are not really interested in peace or a meaningful ceasefire.”

They can't demobilize, they ramped to a war economy and now after losing their main customers the global economy is heading into recession.

Putin's head will be on a plate if he tries to end the war spending.

Appeasement totally works, definitely always the best course of action with sociopathic dictators...they never lie

but russia has foreign army in russia and is CSTO member.

If russia doesn't leave Ukraine territory, then Ukraine should be offered NATO membership to protect remaining territories.

That means an armed truce at best?

And the US negotiation team will respond: "Yes sir, we agree that all of your terms need to be met. Now we can finally suspend all aid to those pesky Ukranians again and lift all sanctions, since Uncle Vladimir is totally in favour of peace!"

All this bullshit is tiring. Abolish the NATO veto and just give Ukraine membership of it already.

This is like a kid wanting to talk to Mom instead of Dad because they think they will get a more favorable answer. Actually it’s more like a kid telling both of their parents to fuck off, and they’re going to just ask their friend’s mom down the street.
