MODERATORS

I haven't updated it for months, thinking it would make sense to follow Lemmy.world's update cycle, but they haven’t updated for so long and we're running into federation issues. So I'll be updating to the latest Lemmy version (0.19.9).

I believe the update process will take about 1-2 hours.

Also, what do you think about Lemmy NSFW's speed/performance? You can express your opinion in the comments or with the poll. We can make improvements if necessary.

Update: Done. Please comment here if you encounter any issues. Email issues are fixed too.

Nice! I've been waiting a long time for you guys to update because I wanted to try out the thumbnail URL feature when creating a new post. Unlike Reddit, Lemmy does not automatically generate a thumbnail for RedGIFs links. Manually adding the thumbnail URL from RedGIFs seems like a good workaround. I tried it on this post: https://lemmynsfw.com/post/22570050

When I used to type @ and then start typing a username then an auto-tagger drop down used to pop up. That don't happen no more.

It works on default Lemmy UI. What client are you using?

[–] Radovic 3 points 3 days ago

Working again now, I had whitelisted the site in ublock origin but the update must've cleared that setting and it was turned on again, so of course, the js didn't work. Sorry about that, I know you've got enough on your plate.

Why is all my pictures showing black box with a arrow, and you have to click it to see it?? It wasn't like that before

see: https://lemmynsfw.com/post/23117990/10860873

I'll try to fix it once everything is back on track.

Okay thank you 😊

Can't vote because I'm using a VPN but would say the speed/performance is good.

I think normally if I have issues it's more likely to be down to using a VPN than this instance being slow.

[–] And009 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I frequently drop VPN for stiff like this, big privacy risk?

[–] creamy 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'd just rather my ISP not see when I'm visiting NSFW sites, that's why I use it!

[–] SineNomen 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That's what https is supposed to be for. Ok, they might see the IP, but that can be shared.

[–] RocksOff 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There's still DNS and SNI though, both of which are likely transmitting the domain(s) you're visiting in the clear.

[–] creamy 1 points 4 days ago

Yeah this is how I understand it. Whilst HTTPS creates a secure tunnel between you and the website, due to DNS your ISP can still see you are connecting to that website.

All posts look like this for me:

NSFW

[–] yay 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I believe the problem is the URLs and thumbnail URLs are now splitted. Thumbnail URLs of old posts may be empty. I will check this issue.

[–] Radovic 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

All my posts look like that. If I click edit, the picture downloads again and I can just save and the thumbnail reappears. Guess I know what I'm doing for the next hour.

Edit: someone messaged me to say all my new posts were showing up without the nsfw flag. Didn't the instance used to be set to auto-flag any new post as NSFW?

[–] yay 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I haven't patched the new version yet.

[–] Radovic 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

OK, I am just having to remember to flag it. No biggie.

Good to hear that they are now splitted. I used to get rate-limited sometimes without even expanding any images because it would load all the full images.

Does the new update bring any new moderating tools or is there someplace I can check for the changes that are coming?

[–] yay 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

You can check new version announcements from here: https://lemmy.ml/c/announcements?dataType=Post&sort=New

And yes, the problem of remote reports not reaching to our instance is fixed iirc.

[–] Taiatari 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Fantastic, thanks!

By the way is there a way for us to automatically have the nsfw flair set for posts on out communities? Alternatively the ability to set a flair if someone forgot to use it?

[–] yay 4 points 6 days ago (2 children)

We started to flag all new posts as NSFW no matter what user picked starting from about a year ago. Is it not working that way?

[–] wankbank 1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I thought it was just that the form was set to NSFW by default. I just posted an image and noticed that the flag wasn't set, and I see that the local view has some posts (local users) that should be NFSW but aren't. Maybe this modification isn't working in the new source?

Good work 👍

[–] yay 2 points 4 days ago

Yeah our image didn't work. I need to re-build it.

[–] Taiatari 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Not to 100%. I have had the issue that a post from the lemmy.world instance did not show up as NSFW in some cases.

For example if the post was seen from a lemmynsfw account in the voyager app or on the web it showed as nsfw. However in the Mlem app it did not show up as nsfw. If the post was seen by a lemmy.world account it showed up as nsfw only in the voyager app but not on the web or in Mlem.

It is kind of weird tbh.

[–] yay 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That actually makes sense. We're just applying this rule for our users only. Federated posts are not going to be flagged by default. I'll check if I can do something about it in our fork of Lemmy.

Also I just saw your message. I'll try to flag all posts as NSFW on your community.

[–] Taiatari 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Fantastic, thanks for all the effort. In terms of additional modding tools, who is the to go to person there? The apps or the lemmy dev teams?

[–] yay 1 points 4 days ago

I can say lemmy devs

That's great: I tried to raise admin attention to an accessibility issue an update would resolve.
